How do I increase the firmness of the lever feel? I've got R8070 shifters, and I've tried bleeding them from the top port. There are no more bubbles coming out but the levers still travel more than I'd like before the pads make contact with the rotor.
Do I need to push more fluid in from the caliper?

Those aren't the same thing. Firmness happens after contact. Overfilling might bring your pads closer but as they wear the lever behaviour will slowly revert to normal.

Ok I think I get it. First disc brake bike so I'm still trying to figure it out. I like doing my own maintenance if possible - I hate not knowing how to fix my bike.
What I'm trying to say is my levers feel like they have a lot of travel even once they make contact, they come very close to the bars before the brakes feel like they're really biting in. Is this just something I'll need to get used to as I switch between my winter and summer bike or will a full bleed improve this?

make sure you have given them a few pumps of the lever to get the calipers into the correct position
you could also try adjusting the reach? bringing it further out

^This - and inevitably if you do get them running without a lot of travel (which I managed once,
seemingly randomly) then it appears they'll just rub when you go uphill instead... #admittedlynothruaxle... you do get used to it though.

Yeah kind of figured it was something I'd just have to get used to.
Fuck it, braking is over rated anyways.

As someone said up there, you can pump a bit more liquid in the system.

Carefully pump lever one more time and push in with tirelever

Done that its the one inside the housing that is not moving much.

• #5468
That happened, notice how it a little out of alignment, it usually take a few try to finally push it back in.
-
• #5469
Hold the moving one in and move the actuation arm to pop out the stuck one, bit of mineral oil for lube might help everything along.

Left it in soak and gone out . I’m sure it will work lose without splitting the whole thing .
Thanks so far -

Ok got them to both pop out , cleaned up and now back on the bike but tight on the disk rotor with no cable attached ? How can i open the space for the pads now ?
-
• #5472
Flat headed screwdriver to push it in carefully
-
• #5473
After the faff of how you are meant to lock the cable down before tightening and removing the slack first, i did it the old way pull press in cable adjuster tighten up . All good now ta.

Anyone bleed their own RX4 calipers?
Where did you get the bleed port attachment from?
Have got a Shimano bleed kit and just need the attachment to start building it up!
Cool, plain old pads for me then
