I'm pretty sure it'll be fine with whatever is in the reservoir, at least until the pads wear down as there will be enough to compensate for that anyway. I'd just try what I said and avoid putting the bike upside-down.

Removing the springs won't help, I mean. Silly reply function, a smaller block should work fine, as will making it think the pads are worn by giving it a squeeze with no rotor.

Do you mean take the wheel out now and press the lever? ie. no bleed kit, no open ports, etc?
-
• #1930
Yep
-
• #1931
I'll go and
kick ittest that theory now. -
• #1932
Well that was easy.
Of course I forgot about the dynamo and that pulled out but the lever throw is gone! Much yay, so joy.
Fuck you discs, I win!

Anyone tried the trp spyre flat mount with an SP dynamo? Wondering if the flat mount will mean I don't have a problem with spoke clearance.
I'm also considering just going hydro so I don't have to deal with all this shit. -
• #1934
all this shit
Amen.
-
• #1935
deal with a different kind of shit
-
• #1936
Thank you for working all this out so I didn't have to. Took my new R785s for a blast on Monday, and I swear the levers were this close to bottoming out.

Shit like this should be in the manual.

• #1939
Thank him? I suggested it last week or something, I want all the praise. Might be worth topping up the reservoir next time you have fluid to hand but doubt it'll be a problem.
-
• #1940
You're a gent. I am a disc brake novice, so if I can do it without having to deal with fluid, that would be great.
-
• #1941
That's what she said.
-
• #1942
Is it paired with a brake/shifter or a brake levers?
-
• #1943
Seriously though, just space the rotor out by a mm and all will be well.
-
• #1944
I used a hope rotor spacer and still had issues. Perhaps i'll try it again. I replaced them with bb7s but my rear bb7 fucked itself so whilst I'm warrantying it I put a spyre back on the rear and it reminded me how much better they feel.
-
• #1945
SRAM force 22 brifters. Kinda pricey to go hydro.
-
• #1946
Hm. I used some small washers I found in a box. Not totally sure they were even the same thickness but so far no issues.
-
• #1947
I did, but left the spacer behind the rotor by accident. There was something else that didn't work optimally with that set up but I don't remember. After landing on my shoulder, fitting flat bars I just thought "fuck it" and bought some SLX hydros for it. Bike looks weird, stops well though.
On that note... pair of Spyre SLC up for sale real soon...

• #1948
On that I had trouble spacing the rotor outboard as the rotor then moved closer to the fork blade. Damned if I do, damned if I don't. But it all works so I'm not touching it.
-
• #1949
Ah, that might have been it... Don't think it touched in the stand, but not enough space if any grit/gravel got in there. Stupid plastic forks.
-
• #1950
Yeah that was my problem exactly as well. At the moment I've got about 1.5mm between spokes and calipers and about 3mm between rotor and fork.
Stupid plastic forks.
What do you mean? If the bleed process is done with the pistons further out (using a smaller block) then the whole system will have more fluid and the pistons will 'start' further out, no?
