IME wheelbase affects stability when hopping, in contact and standing in goal.
I haven't noticed this at all. I've always been pretty shit in goal and my Marino has made me even worse, but I put that down to the shorter wheelbase; I'm certainly no less stable. In fact, it feels to me like staying up when static and under pressure is easier with a short bike because little jabs on the pedals seem to have a greater effect on 'picking up' or 'correcting' the bike like you do when trackstanding.
I totally get everyone's points about playing style though - my bike encourages me to get stuck in, when it may be better to keep my distance.

Snoops is right, utopia is really good.
If you want to turn tight, get a small wheelbase, but understand that this affects overall stability. It is a balancing act

This thread cracks me up, i have no idea about geo or trail or any of that madness, all i know is, try different things until it feels right and when it doesn't anymore (you want to change your style of play) change things again until it feels good. I don't ever think that a specific geo or setup will be perfect for polo, although i think Ryan is pretty close.
now lets see some pictures of some cool looking polo bikes.

What about a classical 26" (around 40cm a-c) rigid fork, and a kind of long (15cm or more) headtube?
I really don't know if that's a good idea to base my geo around a max power fork or not (36cm).
Is the lever forces so much differents? during frontal impacts?I just feel more confident buy basing my geo around something easy to find everywhere, but i get the frontal impact point too. Im lost.

That's the problem with winter. We can't play so we obsess instead.
Slain is right.

40cm forks are easily available. My headtube is 13cm + 2cm of spacers. I kept it a little short to avoid the brake hitting the top tube. Headtube length would depend on your saddle height and how much drop you want to your bars.

Polo bike thread innit >>>>>
I'm interested in geometry and frame building and if you're looking to get your own polo bike built then you need to know this stuff.
It would be nice to have the money to 'try different geos'. -

Josh, define "cool looking polo bike" please.

omg did luca just say 'ignore the trend'
#falls off chairThat's only because not following the trend is the new trend.
And not following the new trend is only the new trend because Snoops couldn't think of anything new so he went full circle. He's already trying to make watching telly instead the new new trend.

Wheel base on 26 for short people who like to hop around?
What distance between saddle and handlebars? -

All good info. I was coincidentally thinking about style of play today and how to build a bike to it. Snoops makes a very good point.
Would love to hear about the oak frames. -

Considers reps ^ ^.
Add on question:
The polo trend #79 of fork brake mounts on the inside. Surely there's more mallet and ball action under the triangle than in front of the bike?
Wouldn't they be better in the original place since there's generally not much action around the cockpitage? Also if you wanted a quality frame builder (after Oak and 14) the these guys are rather popular in Oz.

FBO fo sho.
Yeah, I wasn't trying to say that 10mm trail/1 deg of head angle is a small difference, just that they can easily be neutralised or accentuated by other factors. If my weight distribution is 70% rear/30% front with a 120mm stem and 10cm saddle/to bar drop and yours is 90/10 with a 50mm stem and the bars are the same height as the saddle then our trail could be the same yet the bikes (and rider, crucially!) would handle totally differently.
I think most people (not a dig at you Glowbike - it sounds like you know more than most) talk about geometry as if they're experts, but they can't possibly know the effects of the things they're talking about because they can't isolate the variables.
Intrigued by your adjustable set up. You should make a blog where you make minute adjustments and discuss their effects...
