Just tragic.
I was returning along here on Sunday too and saw road blocked. I asked the cop whether I could walk past the roadblock on the footpath, he hesitated then said no. Kind of glad he did now.

we passed countless groups of cyclists yesterday morning and you always give them a smile or a wave. For all I know, it might have been one of them.

It's getting worse isn't it? 2 in London,1 in Middlesborough within the first 9 days. Not necessarily. There is room for hope. The BBC had the following statistic as part of their story about Gary Mason's death:
**
London cycling deaths **
2007 - 15 deaths[]2008 - 15 deaths
[]2009 - 13 deaths
[*]2010 - 10 deaths -

It's getting worse isn't it? 2 in London,1 in Middlesborough within the first 9 days.I hadnt heard about this, I live in middlesbrough, taxi drivers are frighteningly bad here and i always worry about them when im out on my bike.
Having said that i have experienced many unprepared cyclists in middlesbrough who do not use lights or sensible road cycling technique.
RIP.
I hope numbers continue to improve on incidents.

RIP Richard
Did a loop through herts on sunday and came home along this stretch of road.
Ride safe people. -

Terrible news indeed. My sympathies to anyone who knew him.
Having said that i have experienced many unprepared cyclists in middlesbrough who do not use lights or sensible road cycling technique.
I've just come back from Christmas in Middlesbrough and I mentioned to my girlfriend that I'd hate to cycle there, mainly because the road users just aren't as used to cyclists as they are in London.

Quite often, you don't find out much at all. Even at the inquest, when the evidence is supposed to be presented in full, there's often no real resolution. :(
I really hate this. (I hope this isn't insensitive) but it's good for my own peace of mind to know how each of these tragic incidents could/or could not have been avoided.
