I love the quote in there, "A lot of people think I'm Cav the Chav but I like nice but a bit pricey clothing".

Enough time for Millar to get his case in?

Very slow (gullible) this morning,
Took two links to work out the joke

Enough time for Millar to get his case in?
If he has any sense he will let Chambers take the time and money to challenge it. I am sure that he has said previously that he wouldn't want to challange it though.

Remember the Tour of California and how two geriatrics dominated in the mountains? Here's why:

Its so disappointing that the mentality is to get absolutely juiced f there is any window of opportunity. Doesn't Horner feel like a prat for putting in a worldly climbing performance then being gash for the rest of the year?

Yeah it was hollow to watch. Would have been great if Ryhder Hesjedal could have stayed away from them (which he might have done otherwise)

British world champion = raised awareness of cycling = ignorant articles by sports journalists with no knowledge of cycling.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cycling/15234818.stm
So now anyone with half an interest in sport but no interest in cycling will start with the 'typical over hyped brit - already struggling' meme.
-
• #939
I'm not sure what your problem with that article is ? Seems a fairly accurate description of what happened.
You could take issue I suppose with the title - Cav didn't struggle as such, more HTC struggled to bring the brake back. The public's perception of the sport is normally hampered by them not knowing it's a team sport, not helped by the major prizes going to individuals rather than teams.
-
• #940
That Cav, he's so shit.
Am I doing this right?
-
• #941
I object to the headline, because I don't think you can say Cav struggled. In the initial article I don't think there was any mention of the team struggling to chase down the break, or of the fact that a rider won from the breakaway. It felt like the journalist had no knowledge of cycling.
Is there anyway to see the earlier versions of the article, or the exact time when I posted?

He did say:
"Phew, that was a stressful day. A strong wind from the start, with small roads. "It was a hard race with a worthy winner. Congratulations to Greg Van Avermaet."
Maybe he didn't say he "struggled." But it was clearly "hard" and one could say he expressed relief to be done with it.

• #943
Meh - maybe I over reacted. Still think the BBC's coverage is piss poor given the size of the sport in the UK now.

Ricardo Ricco is reported to have admitted he was blood doping in February when he was admitted to hospital. A life ban will follow shortly, but I hope he gets the help he clearly needs to get his head sorted.

^^ Then again, remember what happened last time we had a road World Champion. Indeed, what happened last time we had a silver medallist in the TT World Champ

Simpson and Millar, or Simpson and Wiggins?
Is the point that it ended in tragedy?
-
• #947
Meant to be Simpson and Millar but a confusion arose with erroneous information in Wikipedia as i was checking my facts. He did with the TT World Chapionship in 2003, as I had thought, and had it stripped off him. Wiki says he won silver which is not the case.
Simpson died while using drugs and while wearing the rainbow jersey. British World Champions do not have much luck.

• #948
I got confused because of Millar 2010 and Wiggins 2011 getting the World Champs TT silver.
I take the point that the broader public may have a hard baked cynicism when it comes to road cycling, but with the depth and ability of the cyclists we have got now we must surely start to see it garner broader and more informed coverage?

British World Champions do not have much luck.
Interesting way of putting it.
But with the breaking news, very apt

Simpson won the Worlds in 1965 and died in July 1967, he was not the reigning world champion when he died, and was wearing the jersey of the GB national team (as the 1967 Tour was run in a national team format).
Disappointing and surprising
