The fit of the Uniqlo oxfords is terrible imo. Too short in the body, small collars but too big collar hole and thin fabric ymmv.
If it’s true formal shirts the M&S non iron premium are good. Otherwise Thomas Pink.
Oxfords I still love classic fit Ralph but they’re hard to get in the UK as everything is custom fit now. I keep an eye on eBay sometimes. Gitman are good but getting more expensive like everything.

I often struggle with their shirts. The more casual soft cotton cowboy type work for me, but not the formal stuff.
I picked up a classic Ralphie in my size and arm length. Love it, but finding another has proven difficult. And I'm not prepared to spend £120 or whatever they are on a mass produced cotton shirt.

It's for a wedding so not quite a full dress shirt but deffo not an Oxford. This is what I have and like - stiff collar, nice cut and pleated cuff detail. Just in *cough, a size larger. Because of the gym obvs, not middle age at all.

I bet he can’t do the collar up and it’s not long enough to be tucked in.

A mate always used to get his shirts a collar size too small for the look.

Unfortunately this is where this thread goes over my head.
To me that just looks like a standard work shirt. I'd go to Lewins and see what fits best.

Been to Supply91 a few times more recently after Ruffians put their prices up; they have a shop in Piccadilly

How much do they charge out of curiosity?
Got to say I really miss having expensive haircuts. I used to go to Taylor Taylor when it was £5o for a director. I dread to think what they charge now.

What sort of prices am I looking at? Am always immediately worried whenever a slick website doesn't tell me what the charges are. Mentions of soho house also leave me wondering if I'm the right sort of customer..

I mean if you go on their page to book it tells you, but £45 for a haircut and wash

Yeah I don't want to get too Patrick Bateman about a white shirt but these are very well made. I've spent many an hour in TK Maxx and never found anything that comes close although they do get a fair amount of Ralph Lauren (classic & custom fit).
If you can get down to a Drakes sample sale, buying three OCBD's for £150 (iirc) is very good value for money. They're what I wear most days.
-
• #5314
Are they really that cheap at the Drakes sample sale? They’ve £175 for 1 at Drakes which is crazy
-
• #5315
It’s been a while since last went but @Tenderloin might clarify as the resident Drakes archive expert…!

Haha quite the claim to fame
Think the are now more like 3 for £200ish
I only picked up 1 of the ALD collab shirts this time around
The prices have certainly become less bargainous but still some good deals to be had

@inchpincher have you looked in on Natalino? They now have a physical store so you could try on a shirt

I've been to Off Cuts in Crystal Palace a few times. They do a good job and they're friendly. They have a few branches around south London. I think a cut is about £30 so not super cheap but not mega spenny either.

Natalino
I hadn't thanks, nice lookbooks on their website. I'm in that neck of the woods next week so I'll drop in.
I think full retail price on a lot of this nice stuff is punchy but it also makes you focus on what you really need/want and keeping an eye out for a primo secondhand bargain has always been part of the joy. There's still no way I'd buy a suit without trying it on, even if I knew the brand and size.

I really rate boardroom barbers in crofton park (SE23). With Adam, specifically. I cut my own hair for ~20 years but after going to Adam for my wedding last year haven't been able to go back to self-cut. About ~£30 for scissors and clippers.

I cut my own hair for ~20 years
hard to believe

Oh no. I am definitely intending to go back to self-cut (how do you beat the convenience of not having to book appointments and travel, and also free), so I'm hoping the difference isn't going to leave me wanting more on a regular basis...
TBH 45 at supply91 is nowhere near as crazy as I was expecting (and particularly for a one-off thing in a convenient location); thanks for all the recs!

Has anyone got any good brand recommendations for women (late thirties, Hackney aesthetic)? Girls of Dust looks good - more brands like that?
-
• #5324
Snowpeak down coats are nice but not sure their jackets are at a cheap price point...even in the sale you're talking a couple of hundred, so maybe 3 times the uniqlo.

This is really disappointing if so, about CT. Ive got a ton of white shirts (wear a suit every day for work) and they have always been my go to, the extra slim are a great cut and they were always so hard wearing and come up really bright after a wash etc. Havent replaced any for a while as I just have a wardrobe of them but was needing a couple more.
I thought TML went bust? They were always really wrinkly, even after an iron, so never my favourite option.
Have you tried uniqlo shirts they may be suitable. I'm going to head down to London on Saturday and try on the slim fit Oxford shirts as I need a work shirt.
