  • Around 70-80£ max, although cheaper is also fine! I've found that sizing is a limiting factor, as I'm 6'2 and on some of the japanese loopwheel shirts look just too small for me.

Some examples of white tees I have:
Merz b. Schwanen 214, nice fabric but a weird fit, had to take XL but still feels odd.
3sixteen heavyweight, good fit & fabric but I'd like to try something else after 10 years of use.
Riding High loopwheel, fabric & fit are excellent but they come with an odd extra pocket.

Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone!

  • Jungmaven also nice and of that ilk. But yeah, I reckon if you’re 6’2” the aforementioned Uniqlo U would be good for you.

  • Reigning Champ are quality and western sized. Though tbh with t-shirts I now just go for the heavyweight Arket ones.

  • Those Frank Carson check suits are horrific

  • Powerhouse, Camber and United Athletics could be options also Carhartt plain Tees. The Camber ones I have are good but hard to find in UK. Im same height as you and 38/40inch chest, 30inch waist if it helps

  • You've got to be careful with Carhartt, they've got a few different ranges that are wildly different fits. I've got a couple of plain black t shirts from them that are both nominally a small but one fits really well and one's down to my knees.

  • Sunspel worth a look at that price.

Random one ive mentioned before, but the reiss bless t shirts are also a great fit.

  • Cotton t-shirts get perma-stench after I have worn them a few times. My skin doesn’t like biological washing powder and I don’t think non bio is effective enough. Merino t-shirts tend to last many more washes before becoming stench garments of doom.

So who makes reasonably priced merino t-shirts? I used to bulk buy rapha ones in the sample sales but this is no longer available to me.

  • Is that stuff any good

  • Works great for me. Apply and zero smell for 3-4 days

  • I’ll give it a go

  • I linked to one of the Yarmo ones a few pages back which is decent for the money.

They said they'll be getting stock in again soon. Just wondering about size.

You ordered a 40, right? What about it is too big? Is it everything in a size down way, or is there something specific?

You're quite slim aren't you? I used to be a 40s, but would sometimes size up and then have things altered down, not so sure now.

    Cheers.

  • Give me your address and you can have the 40 I ordered

  • Cheers. PM'd.

  • Ordered Power House & United Athle's white t-shirts since they were easily available online, hope those turn out to be good. Not too spendy which is also nice.

I will try Arket and Uniqlo U ones at some point, also Lady White co tee was praised in the posted Heddels article so would like to try those.

Sunspel and Reiss are good tees in my experience, but the fabric is too transparent to wear in white.
My hunt for good white t-shirts turned out to be quite a research project so thanks again everyone!

  • Wedding chat. Have a good friend's wedding this summer, don’t want to splash out on anything new but I find myself at an in between weight for my fat/thin wardrobes. Safe option is my blue Paul Smith suit I got married in however the best current fit is a navy double breasted jacket but need to complete the outfit without it looking too casual? It won’t be super formal with morning suits etc, I’m thinking something like the pics below but advice welcome…
Nb, I guess because we’re mid-forties and friends are generally getting divorced not married my partner has taken the opportunity to go full Villanelle in shocking pink and 6” heels so I need to up my game.

  • I’m wearing something very similar to a friends wedding. I’ll either go for Drakes stone chino trousers or charcoal grey Anglo Italian flannel trouser. Worn with socks and loafer/chukka/desert boot. Only thing I’m deciding on it shirt and shoes. Thinking I’ll go for a loafer and stripped blue ocbd shirt (rather than standard white)

Prefer top half of first pic and bottom half of second. Both look like linen trousers which I think I’d avoid for a wedding in favour of something that will stay the distance (cotton probably)

  • Yeah definitely nice new socks, I have some YMC wool cropped pleated trousers like below but I think it needs a lighter shade (stone or cream).
My partner wants me to rock the second picture but I don’t want to be that guy at the wedding.

  • I think in general my thinking for weddings is understated - if you think it will suit the vibe go for it but it's a high risk/reward look! A more subtle take might be a knitted polo or a more subtle patterned short sleeve shirt.

Personally I'd say those trousers are too cropped to be worn with a suit (I love an ankle swinger)

  • something like this maybe but with a more structured blazer.

  • Further to this chat I picked up a suit from Barena. The trousers I wanted were out of stock but they had a more casual pair in the same fabric so I grabbed them. I think they work though.

Wedding is in Turkey so will be warm, still to decide on whether it'll be a white shirt or a white t shirt...

  • Nice looking jacket!

  • If the trousers are elastic waist I think you'll have to go T-shirt or it'll look naff.
