I love my Nanamica down coat
That is lovely but it looks to be old/out of stock, looks like it got heavily discounted so suspect it's no longer available.
I tried the Gore Tex Carhartt on the weekend and for £400 was disappointed with the quality. Looked good, felt fairly cheap. The Snowpeak is on the list but i can't find the hooded in black in my size (medium). Thanks for the list i'll check out the others.

I like the blah blah blah side of the brand and the quality is good. Something about the branding doesn't work for me though, very Marlow.

Do uniqlo still sell their Parker jacket?
My OH got theirs for the winter in NY, which it handled with ease. Typical uniqlo it has tonnes of well thought out features.
Edit: this one

Was looking at the uniqlo parkers the other day great value for money and look good too.

Still wish I'd got one. Forever envious of my OH when it's cold. But picked up a RL reefer jacket in a Macys sale instead.

@hugo7 thanks for the tip, this is well overdue 40th present to myself so might aim a little higher. As much as I rate some UQ stuff I haven't managed to gauge where they sit in the whole fast fashion cheap manufacturing debacle.
@fussballclub this would looking fucking reem with my Mamnick beanie (I don't own a Mamnick beanie, it was a shit joke).

my Mamnick beanie.
You bought a racist bobble hat?
-
• #3591
Um no, was thinking the type of person who might buy that jacket might also buy a Mamnick beanie but I can see how my joke isn't particularly well crafted, or funny.

where they sit in the whole fast fashion cheap manufacturing debacle.
It's a tough one. They made decent quality things, so I wouldn't categorise them as fast fashion.
Ultimately nothing made from cotton will ever be ethical or environmentally friendly. Anything made from synthetic materials will have detrimental impact at some point.

Not even organic?
-
• #3594
If the quality is there and you buy something with the intention of keeping it a long time then you can minimise the impact. I'd take something synthetic that's well made and gonna last over something made made of sustainable materials that falls apart after a year.

Maybe things have changed in the last 3yrs, but the last time I spoke to someone with in depth knowledge of the cotton supply chain, they said you're looking at something like 60% traceability. So as a start I'd be dubious about anyone's claims.
Regardless, cotton uses a fuck tonne of water, organic or not.
The only real solution is consumption reduction I guess.
-
• #3596
Definitely.
Until I recently got too tubby I still wore my dad's gortex Berghaus jacket that's got to be almost 40yo.

I had a design tutor that has been pedalling this for some time. I can understand why brands have been slow to push the "buy less" moto but it's depressing how little people consider this still.

I reckon you’ll find that Nanamica in the sale - usually go 40% early doors

True that.
Don't really agree about the longevity of synthetic stuff though, I've been through maybe half a dozen synthetic (gore, et cetera) jackets and they all leaked. When brought to the attention of the retailer or maker, if there was a guarantee they simply replaced them. End of life issues with plastics concern me.

Csn back up the quality of Nanamica stuff I was always checking there stuff where my wife worked but they never had my size. It's seriously well made with great quality fabrics.
That one may not be for you, but Finisterre menswear get extra points (along with sustainability blah blah blah) for being designed by a forum-er. He's there on the video
