  • its so sad when you look at tailoring or clothing and realise that we have been sneakily sold short. baggy clothing, ill-fitting suits, predistressed hats/clothing. did ready to wear clothing mark the death of people wanting to look good? part of the blame should be levelled at the 80's baggy suit.

  • I will not have anyone talking shit on Buzz Rickson. Be aware, fuckers.

    That'll teach them.

  • My Buzz Ricksons fell apart at the seams...

Cabourn? Not feeling the collar on that one, but nice. I'd love the down jacket from his new collection:

Lovely but completely out of reach at a whopping £1500!

  • Incidentally, I have one of these which I should probably sell, except WITHOUT the red stripe:

It was a gift but the light colour makes me look like shit as I'm so pale myself. It's really great quality and the wool is thick and springy. Worn it once or maybe twice so virtually brand new, will sell for £30 (£45 new). PM me if interested.

    EDIT: like this in fact:

    What's special about that?
Its a puffa that isn't very interesting at all.

  • It's the materials, attention to detail and construction quality, as well as the premium you're paying for the Cabourn name of course. It'll be based in some way on a historical garment. Nigel Cabourn is a pretty interesting designer I think, largely because he operates mainly outside of the fashion world (although he happens to be 'in' fashion at the moment) doing uncompromised renditions of classic clothing to an extremely high standard. Does it for me anyway. You could pick up something that looks similar for a tenth of the price, but I wouldn't mind betting the above would look and feel awesome in reality.

    So you don't like Matalan?

  • Only checkin'..

  • I dig Nigel's stuff but it's way way way overpriced, and in some extent... well, overrated.
That puffa is a good example. I've got a penfield/Stussy puffa for the 4,5th year now, never let
me down (jacket), lol.... it works. ± 200nuggets.

  • You mean he copies old stuff?

Yes and no. If you wish to make it sound more stupid so it makes more sense to you then yes. But rendition doesn't have to mean direct copies, it can be versions of things based loosely on old stuff. And, similarly, 'classic clothing' carries more meaning than 'stuff', doesn't it? In this case classic usually means standard issue military or something.

Look, I'm not suggesting this stuff is worth the money. I can't afford it and even if I could then I'm not sure I would spend so much. I'm just glad that someone is making this sort of stuff, because it's interesting creatively (IMO). And I'm not sure comparing it and a Penfield is all that helpful; it's like comparing a £5000 Omega to a £50 Swatch. They're two different things that both tell the time.

Nigel Cabourn re-issues old classics, or not even classics, just really well made/sort of topnotch garments, usually related to industrial/military purposes. Everything he uses from fabrics, materials, finishing, etc... is top. As is the price. A bit too much is you ask me.

  • No one did...

Then 'FCUK' (always hated that lame joke) have copied Cabourn:

  • No one did...

In that case I shall impose my opinion, grandpa.

  • NC is that sort of brand that is only actually worn by successful media/fashion types, the only ones that can afford it, or actually understand what they're paying. It's the natural upgrade from buying from Endclothing for the past 5years. Now you shop at Present.

  • Little did they know that present overprices every fucking thing, which can be bought sometimes for half the price from the bay. But that's only minor details.

That's complete shite and you know it. Don't let the 'Made In England' labels fool you, it's all made in China

  • Those Cabourn parkas were £700 8yrs ago, now they're £2k!? Still, could quite easily buy the exact same coat for the range he does for Debenhams for £200

  • I do believe it's Made in England, but the fabrics aren't woven here, that I'm pretty sure.
Besides, most European top brands have they're hi-spec garments Made in Portugal.
