  • Weddings and posh occasions. And split up, for instance wearing the jacket with denim, Clarkson-style, or the trousers with a different jacket.

Oops, I missed the word 'seasons'. Erm, Spring, Autumn and Winter I suppose.

  • Bump (thanks).

  • Are you worried about being too hot or cold or do you have some other concern with it being half lined?

I think the warmth (or not) of a fabric has more to do with the porosity of the weave than the weight directly tbh. If the suit is a light, tight weave like a Super 120 or something then the lining probably won't make much difference as the fabric itself is basically impermeable. Whereas if it's something loose and open like a fresco (or linen as an extreme example) then whether it's lined or not will make a huge difference.

Are you having it made or is it OTP?

  • It's not warmth I'm thinking of. Lining provides structure and pure wool is susceptible to losing its shape, unless it's very thick (like tweed for example). My concern is about the longevity and shape of the suit.

  • Ah, ok.

I was under the impression that the structure of a jacket came mainly from the canvas rather than the lining itself. I believe you can still have a full canvas with any variation of lining. I am picturing something like this (scroll down to the "interior details" section).

  • well, as unharmed said, you have to look at the support structure, thread count and cut. If you want that tailored look then this will result in a stiff suit that will take a while to soften.

As regards fabric then virgin wool is a fair choice. Pattern is more limiting tjough because if you had a nice subtle chalk stripe the trouser options are limited. Check (window pane/PoW) is out for this reason too. Which really leaves a fine herringbone as the most practical option for fulfilling - smart suit; off-duty jacket; trousers and blazer.

I would recommnend you look at swatches by Dugdale Brothers of Huddersfield to gauge good quality english wool suitings.

  • Does anyone know of anywhere in London which will buy your designer second hand clothes and shoes to re-sell? I remember I used to work round the corner from a little place in Soho and there's nowhere in Brum. Have some ridiculous Giambattista Valli's that are worth about £600 and some other bits and pieces left over from the good old days. Times are hard and they're rubbing my face in it!

  • ebay

  • one on covent garden near neals yard/seven dials. i got a maharishi jacket there a while ago for 80 quid.

Cos it's WAAAAAAAAAAAY overpriced and people aren't mugs nowadays, unless you're after Maharishi gear

  • ebay

This stuff's a bit quirky/high fashion for eBay. Never goes for anything like what it's worth. Just found a Christopher Kane leotard and a Giles Deacon skirt too. God I used to be tiny! These days I don't leave the house without a bit of lycra on. Oh how times have changed.

  • Oi Polloi are opening a London store, Feb 2012

  • Ace, but seems a bit of shame as it has such a North-West / Manchester 'vibe' (for want of a much better word).

    EAST
It’s time to get on your bike, or at least look as though you are – East encapsulates all that’s good about the cycling-inspired trend seen all over East London (without the bike clips of hardcore fixie enthusiasts of course). Varsity jackets, drop-crotch shorts and summer beanies put a fashion-forward spin on cycling gear.

    lolz.

  • oh my gentle jesus. just when you think things can't get any more embarassingly awfully retarded... they invariably do.

    I'm moving to wolverhampton.

  • Shite but pricey?

  • drop crotch shorts, on a bike?
