ATTENTION ALL
Fierce Festival would like us to play polo at the Fierce Start Party like we did at 'At The Ride In'. It would be from 4-7pm and you can have free BBQ food/drink. I'm going to check the space out before Tuesday and see if it's best inside or out.
If they like us this might be a possibility of an indoor court? Whos in???

That's cool. But I think we need to think how it presents polo. The Ride In was fun, but didn't attract many spectators or any new players because of the small court and ropey surface.
If it's for Fierce's benefit, then anything goes.
If it's (partly) for our benefit, to raise the profile of polo and attract more players, then I think we need at least a smooth surface and some kind of barriers, at least behind the goals.
Free food and booze sounds good!

Agreed. They wanted to represent all the events they've helped over the last year so obviously ATRI was one. They're going to do their best to do it properly and I can try get some flyers/a little information table too. Have arranged to check the space out Monday 4.30pm so that I can figure out the safety and how good playing area it will be! But yeah free food and drink!!!
They just sent me 200 photos of ATRI of which about 100 are polo related so I'll link them up in a bit...

New polo flyers design this weekend. Hopefully I can sneak some out next week.
Can't make it though, cycling to oxford via hook norton brewery. -

Cool cool, be good to have some more. Matt doing the design?

I was thinking of another photo of us with matt's logo on the front and the rules+blog+forum on the back.
Going to edit the footage i've got with matt too.Going to redesign the CM flyer too.

Sweeeet! Be good to have a recent photo with me/a girl? Just sayin'...
CM sounds good too. I set up an event and we've already eclipsed last times attending numbers. Did you notice someone ripped down the CM posters at the middleway?!

What is it with polo-ists and weird terminology? I think you mean 'stripped' or 'crossthreaded'. Some-one else kept going on about how their wheel was 'dished' when they probably meant 'buckled'. The motorised bicyclists amongst us keep going on about stoner music festivals call 'headstock'. Can we all agree to use actual recognised language? It makes stuff easier.
Anyway - if you want your crank off, you're going to have to cut it. It's actually quite satisfying and feels like you're a skilled manual worker (what with your saw and proper tools and all). And if you do it well you might save your b/b.

I did mean cross threaded, just writing in a rush. I've accepted it needs brute force but I want different gearing anyway.

Dan! Can you bring some of that yellowy oil based tubing to our gathering at the all weather pitch this week so I can fashion some kind of 'tip' for my 'scoring pole'?

I would like some for my bat also. my current end is about to crackle, especially if I keep hitting the carpet everytime I take a punt.

• #1143
I'll bring some to polo, or if you want some before hand, I have a bit at oyb.

Sorry not polo related but sort of BS....we need a random thread!
Anyone have a food hygiene certificate?!!? You'll be needed to work the BBQ at the Fierce Party launch on Saturday. About £40 for a few hours work. Let me know ASAP.

Jess, what were you saying about the indoor place? Can you explain on here so everyone can see it (well, the three people who give a shit...)

So basically A E Harris (a big warehouse in Jewellery Quarter) are interested in letting us have the space for a few tournaments, etc but want to make sure we wouldn't cause any permanent damage. There is room inside for at least one court, possibly two if I measure the room which has pillars at one side. I'm going to exchange some emails with the lady who organises external use and see if I can test out the floor and size ASAP. If it doesn't work out, there were sufficient people there last night offering up spaces too so I'll do some digging. There is also some opportunity with ISIS, a developer in Digbeth which I'm still chasing up but keep forgetting...will do tonight.

Here's the factsheet I made up for last night (errors amended). Please feel free to give me any pointers, having only played a few games in other cities and not knowing all the rules properly...

Awesome news. I'm pestering Boxxed, Hyper is pestering Space 2, and with this possible place a tournament of our very own is looking like a possibility.
I think our aim should be to do it around October/November time and to make it part of the National Series.
My only concern is making/hiring barriers. Could take lots of man-hours, or cost lots of money.
I only use this defense when I've got possesion of the ball, i.e. its touching my mallet the time when someone plonks a wheel on it, having sped up behind me.
