  • Will take a set of these and give it a try. In what format do you want the design?

Cheers for your input Colin. I may be able to get 0.75mm polycarbonate, which would bring the weight to equal, maybe even slightly lighter, than correx. In your opinion would this stand up to the abuse?

  • Are these covers transparent? I'm really after something I can see the ball through which is why I don't use a rear cover. I'd be very interested if the case.

  • idea. might be a few extra grams but maybe laminate some 'correx' on the back of a thin bit o' this riot gear stuff = tough and shock absorbing.

i'd be in for a pair, 26" with a decent sized hub hole and a print of my design?

  • Only on my kitchen balance, but it's pretty good to within 5g or so.

Weight given was for one 700c cover, corex, covered in sticky-backed vinyl, 60mm-ish hole in the middle for the hub.

Curious. 130g seems like a big difference. There are different thicknesses of corrugated plastic. I guess I'll weigh one too and see what I get.

  • yeah, corex comes in 2, 3, 4 and 6mm thicknesses

  • Thanks, Bobby.

  • You're welcome, Peter.

I'd have thought there is more use in wheel covers that hide the ball from the opponant than those that show the ball to you

  • Easy to build yourself if the diy types are looking.

Tools are a jigsaw and a drill.
Also a scrap bit of wood/mdf/other to make a circle-jig from - Blades tend not to want to go round corners in Polycarb and will bend all over the place, so the jig needs to support the blade. If anyone is interested I can get a photo of my jig when I get to the workshop either tomorrow or tonight (I'm making it sound more complicated than it really is).

A large centre hole and having it flush with the rim sidewall makes it unnecessary to dome at all.

Cool graphics can be painted straight onto it, any poster or paper-drawing/painting can be spraymounted onto the rear-side (polycarbonate is see-through - they make conservatory windows, bulletproof glass and vandalproof bus stops from the stuff). Or leave it clear.
The ones in the photo are just spraypainted on the rear-side.

    Colin

That is quite a difference. [/quote]the 350g figure is for 6mm thick Coruplast 566mm wide with a 55mm clearance hole.

If you mean think about the fact that ones that hide the ball from the opponant also hide them from me and vice versa, i would be happy for the other team to have see-through wheel gards, and me to not?

  • ^ B's shots will just smash through anything, transparent or not ;)

Nothing to do with the opponent seeing the ball or not, i'm after a transparent wheel cover so that I can see the ball through the wheel. Anyone know if transparent? Will PM thread starter.

  • As menitioned on page 1, clear would be available as well as tinted with colours (grey, red, blue and some others)

Rich, what are you doing that you cant see the ball?
    Genuine question.

  • yeah, surely move your head either side of the stem to see it?

    Way to difficult!

  • I've been working on a couple of prototypes over the last couple of months thinking I might offer them when I was happy with them. Be trying some fiberglass ones but think polycarb is the stuff. Cant believe that price tho, stuff must be falling off the back of a lorry or something.

  • Your wheelcovers are beautiful things, Lepi.

  • i think rich meant the rear gabes. as in when the ball is on your offside and (if your right handed) you look through your right armpit over right shoulder etc but ball is on left side.

That's exactly what I mean Brendan, i'm pretty sure i'm up for one of these drive-side at least.

  • Can you do any other thicknesses other than 0.75 and 2mm? Would interested in some 1mm or 1.5mm ones...

  • Plus how much for a pair? Would be interested in a pair of blue covers, but I'd need to know the potential thicknesses other than 0.75 and 2mm

Can you cut to 700c size yeah?

  • get some correx, seriously.
