Work. Not doing any observing unfortunately, just working on the software.
It was really cold last night so I didn't take many pictures, hopefully we'll get a nice night soon though. I knew I should have brought my tripod

So envious! I was talking to someone the other week about whether a trip to the Atacama would be worth it, but to visit the VLT and stay at the ESO hotel must be ace.

Anyone see a meteorite this evening? Saw a fast, almost vertical, red streak in the south western sky.

No, but the moon is amazing!

Moon + Nelson monument on Carlton hill in Edinburgh this evening. Really wanted to get the national monument in silhouette but couldn't find a good angle. TAL 100-RS + Nikon D800.
Edit: just watched the Sky at Night prior to this—they discussed the "green flash" seen at sunset (wiki), and talked about how you can see it with the moon too. I think you can see the green upper rim and red lower rim here!

The air seems really clear today.
This is a bit crap but still amazing that you can see the rings.

Wow, what gear did you need for that pic?

It's insane that we can now be amateur photographers and can photo Saturn like that.
I want to see it with my own eyes soon.

I used a 600mm lens on a Sony A7 III. With a smaller sensor with higher pixel density you could see a lot more.

£250 and away from street lights and Saturn is a straight forward target...

I was able to see it with a 130mm dobsonian hanging out of my flat window in Peckham (definitely attracted some attention if I was doing that back in Belfast that's for sure...), so it's definitely achievable! Even managed to see the stripes & red spot on Jupiter with the same telescope from Crystal Palace

I was lying down on the sofa when I noticed a bright light in the sky with a dimmer one next to it. Aimed the camera at it and it's Jupiter and moons!! Clearly visible in London!
