  • Vibram?
I think Grenson's have their own 'lightweight' soles but I'm not sure if you can buy them as a separate thing... Maybe ask if they could re-sole your boots?

  • I guess it's best to ask in a shop really. They're leather rather than suede /nubuck so it may just be the weight of the boot. I'm just trying to avoid buying a pair of DMs for the winter (or more to the point the enshoing wrath of my better half for buying more shoes).

I might try that place near kings X mentioned on the previous page.

  • just need to find the right one now...

  • get a pretend leg cast, prolly cheaper :)

  • Some wolverine 1883 (which I assume is their "fashion" brand ie cheaper) size 6 moccasin toe crepe sole boots in tk maxx brixton today, £43

  • J Cheaney, tweed C, tan colour, almond grain brogue boots..
took a week to break in, loving the commando soles.
    Solid construction, head turning looks...

Myrtle could you match these with an iPad 2 case?

Before anyone asks, the rug is Berber design bought in Marrakech, two years ago..

  • Grenson do re soles at £95 a pair, ask in store

  • There's a pair of black barkers long 9 size in the barnardos on the corner in brixton in barely used condition, £25

  • Any info on Loake Shoemakers "Westhay"?

Nice calf leather with no detailing. Possibly the plainest brown shoe I could have found. Only info online I saw was an ebay auction for a pair, apparently 'made to order'. Have asked Loake's fb but asking here too.

  • I don't mind dropping coin on social shoes but begrudge spending on black smart ones for work. Which made it nice when I found these Ted Bakers in TK Maxx that just needed a split pin in one of the buckles.

  • Seen a lot of Ted Baker/Ben Sherman pairs in there recently. Be interested to see how well they wear after a few weeks/months.

Found a scuffed pair of Loakes in the local tk maxx £100 down to £50. Sweet talked my way to paying only £33. Tan calfskin.

  • I've had a couple of Ted Bakers from tk Max. They don't wear that well and the quality does feel a step down from similar shoes at that price point (original price). They're comfy though and at a big discount they're decent for the price.

  • Does anyone do leather boots with a rubber sole in a slimmer sizing than F? Tried on some Loake Burfords in a 9f the other day, and they still felt a bit sloppy with the laces done all the way up. Apparently I have lady feet, albeit hairy ones.

  • Mrs Apone got me some sweet Redwings for Krampus. Am smit.

  • I had no idea that they came in lady sizes.

  • Oh yeah. Me neither. That was just a clumsy link. Mines are a uk 10 and spot on for my usually 10.5 ish plates.

  • Want to get a harder wearing sole on my Redwing 875's, my wokshop just eats the white not-vibram ones they normally come with, and I might as well be ice skating in the wet. Possible, and if so any links? Pretty keen not to use the Redwing shop, as they have been annoyingly snooty twice now, and would like to vote with my feet.

  • proper comfy work boot

  • yeah, de walts surprisingly good too. Uvex quattro were always tough wearing in chemical plants, but a bit lunar-esque on the street (or perhaps it was the bright green slime sticking to them)

  • Just picked up a pair of Ox blood Grensons from eBay for £70. I know they often get flack, but out of curiosity if they say "made in England" are they made in England? Or are they made elsewhere and just polished here?

This pair don't say Goodyear Welted on the sole, so am I correct to assume they have a Blake Welt instead? The listing said Goodyear Welted, but they're pretty much new and I like them so, I'm not sure I'm going to make a fuss either way.

Re cleaning, would you generally use a neutral polish or crèam?

  • Neutral cream and then wax.
