  • I'm going to ignore the high street part and put these here as I think they match the rest of the description and better than anything I think you're likely to find on the high street.

    https://www.meermin.es/catalogo.php?idFamilia4=1

  • Thanks. Style, price and quality all appear spot on. Just need to try on.

  • What size are you?

  • Exactly! ... Most likely an 8 but wouldn't rule out 8.5 or 9.

  • Ah, I was asking as you could've tried one of my pairs on.

I'd drop them a line and see - I've been really impressed with mine

  • also interested what size are you @Tenderloin

  • Meermins tend to run quite narrow, in case you are tempted to get some without trying properly... I am usually 8.5 and bumped up to 9.5 for a pair of Meermins because I couldn't get a wider width (assumed they would flex with time)... but I've regretted it as my toes get squashed every time I wear them. It sounds like you aren't interested in used, but if you are, I have a few pairs that I am looking to shift.

  • I might be, I usually fit a 9.5. What type(s) are they?

  • Again, ignoring the high street, it's worth keeping an eye out on sales.

Robinson's shoes often have decent ones such as http://www.robinsonsshoes.com/barker-arnold-black-size-8-5-g.html or http://www.robinsonsshoes.com/barker-dominic-black-size-8-5-g.html but the hassle there is returning if they don't fit (although generally doable for under a fiver on parcel2go).

There's always tk maxx online, easy to return these as you can just take them back to a store (my last order I ordered 3 pairs, each a half size apart). http://www.tkmaxx.com/new-in-mens-shoes/black-leather-derby-shoes/invt/27096967 or http://www.tkmaxx.com/new-in-mens-shoes/black-oxford-brogue-shoes/invt/27059898

  • @Olly398
The Meermins are black double monk straps with light broguing on the toe. They say Mallorca Linea Maestro handwelted which I don't think they are offering at the moment so I wonder if they were part of an MTO batch? They are very lovely so I was actually thinking of keeping them and give them a bit of a stretch width-wise. TBH I rarely wear them though, so I could be convinced to part with them.

The others which I was mainly referring to (that are on the larger side of my range) are black grenson brogued oxfords. I also have a pair of size 8 Cheaney brown brogued oxfords (they are 8E which would fit me in Grensons, but doesn't seem to in Cheaneys) that should fit @aquatic .

  • They're pretty true to size. I'd go an 8.5. I've got 2 pairs of Meermins and I am usually an 8.5 in Vans and Nike if that helps. My Meermin Bluchers are as comfortable as trainers, really couldn't recommend them enough

  • black double monks sound lovely. how long are your feet, mate?

  • John Lewis & Debenhams stock Loakes - normally around that price.

  • Are the Cheaney's for sale?!

  • What size are the Grensons?

  • Just headed to brighton for the weekend, but will post a for sale thread or something on my return - didn't expect there'd be so much interest!

Quick answers @Olly398 Grensons are 9E, have another pair that are 9.5 but possibly fakes? @Samson Cheaney's will be for sale - there is a heel situation that needs sorting out, but they are very nice, just too small ... @drøn the double monks are lovely, and by feel, the best of the shoes I've got, but a bit narrow for me... I think my "proper size" would be an 8.5E (wide) or something like that...

  • Meermin dark brown oxfords are starting to look like an irresistibly good option.

  • Of course they are :)

  • Done. Let's all pray they fit :/

  • Just giving my crockett and Jones brown shoes there first clean after a bit of a beating at a party.

I don't have my usual shoe cleaning kit (brushes and cloth) with me, so I thought I'd just rub some of the supplied shoe polish on with a new Jay cloth.

It looks like the Polish is darker than it should be and I now have a brown mark where I have applied it. I've stopped so as to not do any other damage.

Is there anything else I can do?

Should I have just used clear polish? I'd have thought they'd have given me the correct polish.

  • I think @jaw has a pair of Meermin shoes. Pretty sure he was saying that the quality is great.

  • Any advice? My other half says it's barely noticeable, but I'm still a bit gutted. I'm wondering if I applied using a brush if that will even it out.

Do people generally use clear polish for brown shoes? If so any advice on which brand is best?

    Cheer s

Ps apologies for the multiple posts the forum didn't seem to want my images.
