  • @cornelius_blackfoot Dave's is a goldmine and round the corner from you, don't know if they will stock the model you want but they have got a load of Redwings and Wolverine boots for workman prices.

Also great for dickies, normal levis models, canada goose, carhartt...one of the best shops in NY imho...

  • I got hammered on here for suggesting Fracaps last year.

  • By me? Tbh, they're much much better in real life than in photos

  • i like fracap, diemmes are on my list though, got some diemme vans suede recently and they are incredible

  • I don't think it was you, unless you've had a severe volte face.

Diemme are nice too, there were a few reductions on End, I thought about going for a pair, but now we're almost out of january there's probably no point.

  • Any experience with Hudson shoes? I was at Article near Hoxton(some shoes bogof), sizing up some grensons, and I saw a pair of Hudson boots that were Goodyear welted (by looks, and according to the shop assistant) and significantly cheaper. Too good to be true?

  • Yes. Far too good to be true.

  • I actually bought some h by hudson 10 years ago and i still have them now, quality was exceptional, not sure about the brand anymore though so don't hold me to it.
I would say however don't be too put off by a brand or price if the quality looks good - 'high street' Grensons after all are made in india as well and cost £250+ probably better off buying a good pair of northampton shoes vintage and have them resoled if you are after something that will be sure to last for less money

  • Finished my boots.

  • @Aleksi, thanks for the Dave's tip. Redwing's purchased for 237 dollah, inc sales tax and a pair of insoles, approx half the price of what they'd cost over here. Will be wearing them for the foreseeable...

on a looking after leather note, can I use brooks proofide on leather boots? I've got some and no brooks saddle so would like to mcguyver it into service looking after my boots..

    let me know..

  • I'm sure it'd work fine, what did you get? Some moc toe boots?

  • They look great. So when does resoling become a service you offer?

  • what @bainbridge said @murtz I've got some desert boots I want "christifying"

  • yes. i really want to do some desert boots too

  • @>>>>>> yeah moc toes, the 875's. Nicest colour and the cheapest price...
New York was colder than a witches titty though...

  • Did they come with them soles or did you have them put on? I'd like to rejuvenate a pair of similar boots.

  • @bluebikerider, no, they came with Victory hard rubber soles, I put the Christy's on.

  • Thanks. I'll see if my local cobbler can do something similar.

  • Not shoes but leather...

    briefcases.
Any smaller brands I should be looking at? Don't really want to be paying top dollar (Mulberry etc)

    Thanks

  • Get a leather music case

  • Cherchbi. not cheap but cheaper than mulberry...and you get what you pay for, confident mine will last me a lifetime - I have the barret flap briefcase and love it, use it for business and pleasure, the holdall is brill too (and i feel like a boss when i travel with matching luggage)

  • I've been very happy with my Ruitertassen - less sleek-looking than the Mulberry stuff but the leather & workmanship is top-notch.

  • Bloody hell (puts prices up)

  • Currently breaking in my redwings, they are half a size too big, but I love 'em already, especially the price at half the cost of a pair here...
