  • So, shoe heads. I'm in the market for a pair of black plain toe boots. I currently own:
    Alden 405 (classic brown)
    Yuketen Eric (blue suede)
    Alden PT (chromexcel)

I was therefore wanting something not much more chunky than those. I was thinking:
    Trickers Low Leg Logger
    Red Wing Beckman boot

    Anything else I'm missing?

  • Danner Forest Heights II
    Grenson Joseph boots
    Grenson Fred brogue boot
Wolverine 1000 mile (I'm sure other have gone for these)
Dr Martens Hadley boot (I imagine a bit of a cheap/naff option for you but hey)

  • Nice, thanks.

I already have two pairs of 1000 mile Wolverines, not boots though but was thinking about something else. Danner's look nice.

I thought also about the Red Wing Blacksmith in Charcoal which looked good.

  • If you want chunky then you might think about some of the workwear orientated brands, Whites, Wesco maybe Viberg (overpriced) or maybe Lonewolf (Japan). There are few other brands check the denim forums for obsessive discussions on style/brand merit. Your choices for trying them on in the UK is limited though. Most, except Viberg (overpriced) come in cheaper than Trickers, Alden' etc... The Trickers logger is not an especially chunky boot btw and is a lot lighter in weight than the equivalent brogue.

  • I've got a pair of White's Semi-dress in a US8.5, fits like a UK8, I could part with.

    Not too dissimilar to these

Can get proper photos if interested?

  • Very nice. Good work.

  • undecided @Murtz, couldn't you have jazzed them up a little..?

  • ha!! the C shade was in a right state. I could only go dark...I might take the polish off, and see what I can do with a lighter colour.

  • @Tenderloin managed to get me some Yuketen's from Kurt Geiger in Selfridges for £89. Such lovely shoes.

  • Just got a pair of Grenson Monty's in the sale, couldn't resist the price drop:

I know the light tan version is nicer, but I couldn't bring myself to pay full whack and I already have a lot of tan shoes. I'm not entirely sure in what context one can wear tassled loafers. I'm thinking I'll wear them down to the next meeting of Left Unity.

  • Bermuda shorts, popped polo shirt, three day beard, Aviators, no socks... Voila, Eurodouche... ;)

  • Good plan, but I was thinking more brushed cotton shirt, fair isle slipover, mustard cords, wingback chair and I was very, very, drunk...

Good to know I've got a summer option, though! I'm off to find a rose gold watch the size of a dinnerplate.

  • ^ I love correspondent shoes! I got married in a pair of brown/cream Loake Sloanes:

I'm not sure what it says about my marriage that I wore shoes named for divorce proceedings!

  • i have a beautiful pair of Cheaney Jackie R's in full grain leather going if anyone is interested, uk 10.5, dainite soles, fantastic everyday show but a touch too large for me, i will be buying the same again in a smaller size!

    £120 ono delivered sound fair?

  • Finally replaced my 5 year old Jeffrey West brogues with a very similar pair of Jeffrey West brogues! Reckon with cobbling costs these shoes cost me 40p per working day worn every working day for 5 years.

  • Fabulous shoes. As you know - 10.5 can mean nearer 10 or nearer 11 and my son is both! Any chance we can try on? Are you in London/city/nearby?

  • am afraid not, am in yorkshire- but you could go into one of the shops and try them on, just make sure the numbers on the inside match so you are doing like for like? imho i think they are nearer 10 but it's harder to say

  • I'm not sure if these are considered proper enough, but I have a pair of Paul Smith shoes that are brand new and completely surplus to requirements for sale in the classifieds. They're current season, new and unworn other than to try them on.

  • Thanks man. Alden boots are as far as I'll go in terms of chunky and actually I think are far superior to Viberg (overpriced). in terms of quality.

I'm keen on something a bit slimmer so the Logger could do it.

  • Hey bud, how you getting on with the Fracaps?

Will pass on those as I have a couple of nice work orientated boots already, although I did check out Whites, they look very nice.

  • They're doing good! Soles are getting manky in the wintery slush though, but part from that, all good

If Alden boots are as chunky as you go, White's will def be too chunky. They're by far the heaviest boots I've got, but still comfy to walk in

  • I have a pair of the loggers and they are a great shoe so I can give them my biased recommendation. I see a couple of online retailers have them but it's not a OTP shoe for Trickers and you may be out of luck for size. In the 5 width they fit true to size for me at least.
