How much was the forum donation David?
$100 from the forum immediately.
I wanted to do more, but my evil plan to rely on affiliate schemes has proven to be short-sighted... not a lot of bike equipment is sold over the winter months compared to summer and affiliate revenue has taken a nose-dive.
I'm going to square up the accounts later to see if I can add a more noticeable contribution from the forum (another $400 would be nice to make it $500), but stupid me emptied the forum coffers doing the Cycle Show and the low affiliate revenue hasn't topped them up fully yet.
Still... it's something, and if the accounts look passable then I'll donate a more heftier chunk later.

It is good to know that forum member donations go to such causes. Could there be a set amount (say a tithe -10%) of all donations to this forum that go to worthy causes?
-
• #55
If people wanted that then sure, I'd do it.
I aim for 10% of my own salary to charitable causes (though at the moment I'm only doing 8% according to last months budget), so it's a no brainer to do it to forum funds too.
The hardest part is deciding who to give to. Pre-deciding would make impulse things like this not possible, but if it was done periodically it would be easier to do. Say annually when the accounts are all squared up... then see what the total donations were and donate 10% of that minus any impulse donations throughout the year... or something.

Just made a donation to you seeing as how you donated to her. I tried to buy something from the http://www.emiliegossiaux.com/ site and failed, but will keep trying.

Donated as well.. shocking story. If the whole forum chipped in just 10bux each, we'd do some serious help!

Unless I've missed a page the website doesn't actually say what they are raising $200k for.
Related news articles suggest it's to cover the cost of a second cochlear implant?

It's America, healthcare are quite expensive over there (hence why my parents moved back to the UK).

healthcare is insanely expensive in the US. Even worse if you don't have insurance (even with the new Obama thing, a lot gets classed as pre-existing, so the insurance doesn't cover it).
-
• #65
I guess they already have some kind of health insurance, but does that not cover the after care?
-

Health insurance never even covers the full cost, and they try and avoid paying it. Health care is insanely expensive in the USA, and Emilie has had a lot of her future earning potential devastated by this incident. I don't care what she uses the money for, she's going to need every cent of it.
