Oooofff! Not very nice. Hope you're ok, no damage for Christmas.
-
• #5
fffuuu. ouch. Could have been a bus or a motorcycle, the silly pillock, and a lot more damage for them. Should have looked and not dived...
Bad luck.

ouch - hope you are okay!

Ooof. I bloody hate streatham high road. I'm guessing your front wheel is dead?
Unlucky, heal up fast. -
• #8
Did you brake?
-
• #9
Side street + plus line of stationary traffic = proceed with caution. Any damage?
-
• #10
Gotta look out for those side roads! I'm guessing this aint snuff so glad you're well.

that might be the best argument against motorbikes in bus lanes i've ever seen..
hope you and bike are ok..

• #12
Are you alright mate? and what's the camera set up?

What am I missing?

The gap developed quickly, and the car came through straight away, very hard to spot. If you look at a pot hole or scratch your nose whilst cycling you can easily miss something like this, no matter how good a cyclist you think you are.
My back is feeling bad and thats about it. The front wheel is probably a write off.
My bike has disc brakes and even when i pulled hard on that it wasn't enough to stop in time. The camera is a ContourHD 1080p

good to hear you're pretty much OK. Hope you got all his insurance details to purchase a nice shiny new wheel. For some reason the driving last night was worse than normal.

What am I missing?
I think the suggestion was imaging what would have happend to a motorbike travelling x mph faster.
OP, hope your back sorts itself out soon. Not too much you could have done in the situation, not sure the going slower would have helped too much either.

Hope your back feels better soon.
I know this is hardly a practical point but cars shouldnt really be manouvering into a stretch of road when visibility is obscured. If you cant see that it is safe to maneouver then you shouldnt really be doing it.
Lucky that this was just a dodgy back and knackered front wheel. As Kidboy says, would have been a major deal to a motorbike too.

Will this make it into episode 18??
Glad you're OK though.

/\/\/\ ha!
love the action replay in it.
heal up soon.

I'm going to say no, i don't want to comment on the issue in a video at this time to protect it for insurance purposes. in the future, maybe.

Maybe a "best of/outakes" compilation for 2010 review?? lol

Glad your alright and not too serious.
Side street + plus line of stationary traffic = proceed with caution. Any damage?
Training tells you this as well as altering road position to improve sight lines, but its a bit late now.

I would disagree with this statement, and postulate the opposite is true. If the motorist was expecting/used to having that type of traffic they would be more observant. But then again its Streatham.
Hope your back feels better soon.

Would've been going 60mph and got through before the car, innit?
(not serious)
Good luck with any claim you might make, gaz - bad luck with the collision. I quite like your videos, which give a pretty good illustration of a London cycle commuter I reckon. Keep 'em coming.
Hope your back fixes itself soon without needing any treatment.

Almost had this happen to me the other night.
Heal up soon man, glad you are relatively ok.

The car in front of the white van pulled away seconds before the car appeared through it. Very hard to read that situation and act.
