I hit a long stretch of clay today- doubled the weight of the bike before finally stopping the wheels from turning

That’s what @hippy’s wheels look like after a ride on tarmac...

That stuff is death to bikes

It brought me to a standstill- and was a bugger to get off with a stick. When I got home I showed the bike The Hose.
Conclusion: SDW is twice as hard in Winter than it is in Summer.

Nice 80km yesterday and wheelsucked for the last 10km by someone not minding me clearing my nostrils a few times, investigating why my headset/ stem has play in it this morning means no bike riding until new expander/ forks possibly. See what LBS say tomorrow.
Think this is the mildest weather ever for a Festive 500.

Another 125km today taking in the sights and quacks of wales. Stumbled upon Llandegla's annual boxing day Duck Race. Placed our bets on a contestant called Beanie (#LDRCap21) . Disaster struck the rubber duck when they routed into a bush overhanging the stream. See pic for the entrants in the best dressed duck competition.

Nice 60km ride with some of the folks from our community workshop in Aberdeen.
Two of us did the shorter loop and two others headed to Fettercairn to see if they could find any whisky at this distillery. I gave them a 0.01% chance of finding it open / anyone there and indeed there wasn't.

my rear wheel has started sounding like this
Any ideas what it might be? Doesn't seem to be anything interfering with the wheel, maybe the hub?

Something's binding. Check for rough bearings. Check the freehub body bearings and for sticky pawls too. Check the skewer is tight too in case skewer was spinning.

Is it a Mavic? If so it’s pretty common, you can service it and lube with mineral oil but it will generally come back eventually. One part is a bushing, not a bearing and gets worn over time.

Apparently the Evans warehouse wasn’t open yesterday so no mech hanger today. Guess I’m doing Cambridge and back on my Langster tomorrow!
Only had it a month so I hope me knees don’t mind too much.

😀 Go go langster power! It’s mostly flat, you’ll be grand

I need to borrow a penny farthing for my NYE ride, just to keep the diversity going.

Slightly ridiculous 40km mtb loop today in that I didn't set off till half 4 so it was pitch black within the hour.
Brings me up to 87km. 400km over the weekend seems a bit optimistic.

Up and rolling before 6am every day to dodge the heat. Yesterday's edition saw the mercury hitting 40c at 10am and some proper vertigo and fear of snakes ... 150k to go

I see the pic now.
I was the other side of the water at that bridge about 10 this morning.
