  • Just seen the 13:08 update, hope this is correct.

  • Fingers crossed she'll recover.

    Stay safe people!

  • ^^^+1. As said above, I use Edgware Road daily, but not as far down as Marble Arch. Just this morning a van overtook me, leaving no more than a centimetre space between us. Really scary stuff.

  • :(

  • Just seen the 13:08 update, hope this is correct.
Correct at time of press. The police had just reopened the northbound lane of Edgware road and were pulling down the remaining police tape on the pavements.

Well done on calling the ambulance, I pulled up outside the sainsburys what must have been immediately after the accident (On the pavement coming from Oxford Street) and Mike Hael saw me and stopped heading the same direction you must have come from.
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

  • Concerned: Be proud of yourself for calling the ambulance. Believe me lots of people would have looked the other way.

Also, look after yourself. You may be in shock or about to go into shock from what you have seen. Even if not, seeing what you have seen is horrible. If you feel like its hitting you badly, call a friend to come and spend some time with you.

Thoughts with the cyclist...stay strong lady

    D

  • Concerned, sorry to hear that you had to witness this. It sounds horrible. You should give the RoadPeace helpline a call. They run a lot of support services for injured or bereaved people and will no doubt know where you could turn to get support. Have a look here:

    http://www.roadpeace.org/support/emotional_support/helpline/

Good luck, you did the right thing.

  • Thanks. I felt pretty sick and shaky and had to sit down for a while after.

Massive, massive respect to two other female cyclists who spoke and and held the poor girl's hand while waiting for the ambulance. It wasn't a pretty scene but they looked very calm and composed which I hope would have been some reassurance.

  • I had lunch yesterday with a good friend who lost her leg below the knee in a bike accident about 18 months ago. I'm currently helping her get back on two wheels, modifying prosthetic/cleats etc.

Her one biggest regret (apart from going under a transit van in the first place) is that she hadnt been able to thank the people who sat with her in the road holding her hands until help arrived and the person who called the ambulance in the first place. She is certain that their kindness saved her life (and her other leg). As I said, be proud of yourself.

  • this is awful.
concerned, i really cannot emphasise enough what an important impact you made on that girl's life today. as a cyclist, witnessing something like this is my worst nightmare.
everything i have goes out to the girl and her family. i'm going to think positive and hope she pulls through.

  • Yes, well done Concerned for doing your bit, not easy under the circumstances. Hope the lady is OK.

  • Heart-breaking, hope she's (going to be) OK.

Well done those of you who helped.....

  • Oh my god this is so upsetting to read. I hope with all my heart she is ok.

  • heal up soon lady.

    /a lorry? quelle suprise.

  • I work in a building nearby. the police came around asking for CCTV video. i am sorry to say that the woman did not make it. what a sad tragedy, especially just before the holidays.

  • RIP. so tragic. thoughts go out to victim's family and loved ones.

  • horrible news RIP

  • RIP fellow cyclist

Will be thinking of her family and friends.

I'm sorry the news is bad Concerned. Remember what I said about getting a mate round if you're feeling rough.

    Gutwrenching.

  • Beware of such news borne by police. I fell for this again recently even though I knew better. It may be true but I sincerely hope not. In any event, better to wait for official confirmation.

  • Awful news ... hope for a full recovery.
