  • so lets start a thread with two aims then?

    a) to gain a working library of areas of london that are particularly dangerous and we've evidence of accidents upon (aka rider down threads).
    b) gain support by way of a petition in support improvements to those spots defined in a.

Then take them over to the cycle task force and ask for their help in lobbying the necessary councils/government officials to get them to improve the situation.

  • Glad to hear she's still alive. Hang in there lady.

  • ^ to be fair benjam i think there are already quite a lot of threads covering your suggestions already. Albeit maybe not as specific as you're suggesting.

    S/

  • for eg:
    **HGV-Cyclist incidents
    **http://www.lfgss.com/thread11587.html

**HGV Campaign - See the thread now and HELP!

  • fair does, I'll UTFS before suggesting next time.

I think benjam was referring to the issues regarding specific roads or gyratory systems that are hazardous (eg Vauxhall Cross, Aldwych, E & C) and therefore need engineering solutions to alter them, rather than general HGV danger.

  • By the way, is anybody on here who can offer or point towards a counselling service for the direct witnesses of that collision?

I'm sure that a person who hold a hand of the victim for example, must have a need to talk to someone. Shock like this can linger and bite you back later on.

  • By the way, is anybody on here who can offer or point towards a counselling service for the direct witnesses of that collision?

It's why I recommended RoadPeace further up. They don't offer counselling per se but they give very good advice and can bring people together to deal with such experiences.

    Ah, yes ^ this.

  • oh and I'll ask my other half (Dr.) for some details of a counselling service.

  • Ah, yes ^ this.

    My apologies :-)

  • If anyone's interested in engineering solutions, I'm always happy to discuss them. Unfortunately, there is currently no political opportunity for dealing with the Marble Arch gyratory, but we're making progress on Stoke Newington.

  • Concerned: It's weird how some details seem so clear from the accident and some of it just seems a total blur. Well done for communicate the details coherently. There were two of us - I was the one in the yellow jacket. I don't think I remember you asking about her breathing but thankfully, somehow, while we were there she was fully conscious - breathing and able to talk. I'll spare the details but she was trapped above the knee. Although we were trying to keep her calm, hold her hand and talk to her, we felt so helpless as there was absolutely nothing else we could do so it is encouraging to hear that that may have been of some (even if only very minimal) comfort to her.
I used one of the links above to call number for people who witnessed it and spoke to people there. Although I didn't see the actualy incident, just heard the scream, they are coming to take a statement from me and are very keen to hear from anyone who saw any part of it or was involved in any way so they can get an all round picture of what went on.
I was in shock, but thankfully have had great friends around and been well looked after! I'm aware that this may effect me for a while.

  • What a truly awful accident.

That junction is a terrifying place.

I have nothing more to add but sympathy and best wishes for a speedy recovery to the poor woman and praise for those who helped her.

  • Any news on the lady , also any news how the driver of the lorry is? , reports suggest he was in the correct lane and the police have no evidance of speeding etc , best wishes to all

If you are going to make your first post on this forum on the subject of a rider down and, more to the point, mention 'reports' which suggest who is/is not to blame then do not be surprised if people are suspicious of you. We all remember the lorry driver who's 'wife' turned up in various places telling what turned out to be lies about how he came to run over and kill a cyclist.

Bit soon for 'reports' surely ? I haven't seen any. I doubt the police would be releasing too much information at the moment, incase it prejudices the enquiry or any legal proceedings. They probably havent even viewed the CCTV yet.

  • Hey...I know that all of these comments are the result of feeling angry/sad at what has happened but lets just keep this thread for verified news and well wishing. I say this acknowledging that I was a RIPer earlier on in the thread.

Massive love to the lady in hospital and also to all of my two wheeled breadbins. We love our sport and we love each other...thats why we get frustrated no? Right, I'm off to press some flowers.

  • Really well said Sniffy. Have just been welling up for the poor girl after page 1 then got to page 2 and felt so relieved. You've said it perfectly. I hope to God she'll be ok. When will these frigging trucks be banned?!!!

Not for a while...Not until someone up there has a loved one go through this kind of trauma, sadly.

  • It's my girlfriend, Veronika, who was the victim. I was going to check this forum at a later date but the investigating officer told me today that LFGSS had been in contact, so I thought I'd check it as soon as I got the chance.

She's alive and doing well considering. Her injuries are very serious. I've given the police permission to release her name but no details. I don't want to go into it to much right now as it's early days, but thanks for all the well wishes. I'm amazed at how people have been about this.

I might not be checking this thread much at the moment, but please can Zwanzig20 and Spanna PM me? I really want to talk to you.

    Thanks ever so much everyone

  • Good to know she is still alive. I hope she pulls through and makes a full recovery
    (((hugs)))

    xxx

  • All the best, Veronika and James!

  • Wishing veronika all the luck, love and best wishes in the world.

Bikebilly, we try to be a caring sort of bunch. Some of us have been in similar accidents, some of us have seen similar accidents and some of us just care about being there for people who are affected by such accidents.

Just shout if there is anything any of us can do.

  • @ Stonehedge +1, well said.
@ Bikebilly, thoughts are with you and Veronika.

  • from such a tragic circumstance, some amazing glimpses of people's mettle. Hats off to Concerned, Spanna and the other rider for being there for a fellow cyclist. Truly admirable.

To Veronika - wishing you all the strength in the world to help pull you through this. You are in the thoughts and prayers of well-wishers from all quarters, as are those who are close by to support you. Your hands are held by us all xx
