Thanks for everything Dave.

Perhaps a new building at HH named after him. That would be a fitting tribute and would mean that HH had survived.

Ive only been going to HH 2 years, but its hard to imagine the place without him there.
Very saddened by this news.

Dave taught me how to ride the track many many years ago now and since then has provided regular, invaluable advice on almost every aspect of my bike and my riding. "Dave's whistle training" will be a regular feature of Saturday morning training sessions, I assure you.

Count me in for a contribution to any forum tribute.
It's going to be weird riding at the track next season without him there, keeping an eye out on everything that's going on.

RIP Dave, the track won't be the same at all. really sad to learn of this. I'll remember Dave as the sage at the sideline giving advice when I'd get dropped from the bunch.
i was only just thinking of him yesterday, too. because i was riding no handed across the bridge from uni.

Sad news, Dave was a stalwart regular figure at Herne Hill I bet when the wind blows you'll still hear him shouting orders at errant riders.

thanks jc
This hits hard.
As Clive says, without people like Dave grass-roots cycling would die and specifically without Dave's dedication Herne Hill may not be open at all.
Since coming back to track cycling in my mid twenties I've raced around 15 seasons at HH, Dave was ALWAYS there. There is so much I learnt from him, not in direct conversation, or with much frequency, but quick words, suggestions and snippets of info here and there and they were always right, always valuable and unforgettable.
For everything he's put into our sport I hope he gets the memorial he deserves in the form of an annual race at a major event....or something similar.
