On whose behalf have these plans been developed, Cooky? On behalf of the new campaign, the DE, or someone else?
Can't make it tomorrow, unfortunately, but very interested.

Hopkins are a good practice, with a strong background in sustainability.
I'm sure they will prsent a well thought out feasability study.....I will try my hardest to make the meeting, but will most probably be stuck at work looking at plans of awful modern skyscrapers instead.

On behalf of the STV campaign and the VCL.

looks very expensive and the usual 'architect's vision'
when are the realistic plans being released with a facility for cyclists not a glass folly/cafe? -

Lighting!!!
The model in the PDF is a crime aginst model making.

These are the same artichokes that designed the Olympic park Legacy Velodrome.
My personal belief, is that HH needs a building in a similar vein to the one at Hog Hill, it serves a cycling facility perfectly and is secure, cost effective and convenient to operate.

it needs a creche and a alternative therapies room.

Do you not think tagging on to the "Olympic legacy" and the Velopark is a good idea? A cycling facility that caters for people who don't own track pumps is going to have better chance.

I do think it's a good idea, all London facilities should have some kind of link.
However, the financial outlay for each site is very different! -

all amazing ideas

No seating by the finish line?

Are the trees made of sponge?
I want sponge trees in my garden.
-
• #16
why not make the track out of that spongy black stuff they have in playgrounds?
this way all abilities and ages can use the track without fear of injury. -
• #17
Why not make it out of cheese? Then, when crashes do happen it's just a tasty accident

It's a great website though and clearly a lot of work has been done by a lot of impassioned people. I really hope it makes it to fruition as losing Herne Hill will be a travesty.

I think the plans look sensible, I hope it becomes reality.

Just patching up the track and putting in some buildings won't safe the velodrome.
It needs to be seen as a place to go for people other than those who want to ride the track. Local families who have no interest in track cycling need to buy into the venue and support it. You can only do that by making it attractive. Giving it a modern facelift and creating a park that can be enjoyed by many is a good approach.
The more people who use it the more it'll be supported by people with money...
The limited amount of trackies that would use it would not attract people with money that are needed to keep it alive... if it was we would not be were we are now.

Nice work on the site. It looks slick and thats what is needed to attract investors and supporters.

any reason why they're not doing it up as a sport centre rather than just for cycling? e.g running track, athletics, football, hockey, etc.
other velodromes functions as such. even indoor velos are used for other sports (volleyball, netball, badminton, basketball etc)

I think there's a large number of facilities for other sports in the immediate vicinity, so the campaign has, rightly in my opinion, kept the focus on HH being a community cycling facility.

+1 there is a rugby/football ground just over the fence. A couple of gyms E.Dulwich way along with Dulwich Hamlet FC (with astro turf hockey/football pitches just behind). A couple of decent parks not far away too.

Everyone's a fucking expert when it comes to buildings! Despite what you think you couldn't do a better job at designing it yourself. Whether you're a fan of 'the pringle' or not, it's a vast improvement to something like Manchester Velodrome.
I'm not a fan of the tensioned fabric roof, but it looks like a good facility. I don't see what's so different between this and Hog Hill, it's very similar, just with a viewing terrace which would actually be a huge improvement to Hog Hill.
The model and the quality of the document aren't fantastic but it was probably done with a tight deadline and for a low fee.
I hope this goes ahead.
8pm tomorrow (thursday 2nd december) at the Crown and Greyhound
