Charles Saatchi stole it to drape all over Nigella. Their lovemaking is art itself.

• #257
And they say modern art is inaccessible...

I wish Nigella was accessible.

GOOD. I hate it when people get so precious about Banksy's work (and not other, 'illegitimate' work that isn't recognised by the Art World). It's better that it's ephemeral. There's one in Victoria Park that's been tagged all over loads of times and someone keeps restoring it... fucking lol.

most grafitti is wiped up and cleaned off by the local council
i am surprised bansky's stay up for so long myselfas they are now becoming " works of art " some councils are actually putting plastic covers over the pieces to preserve them, why don't they do that with my DICKI WUZ 'ERE pieces ?
-
• #262
there was that one on rivington street, i think, that was actually carefully removed and sold / carefully removed and put in a gallery / preserved on the wall behind plastic
strike out where neccessary
wonder if you could get some orignal banksy in your front room by chiseling off some render around borough
-
• #263
Part of what makes a Banksy is often the location. Move it and that context is lost rendering said piece a pretty daub but no longer a statement.

Not in the least bit modern but really there's no appropriate thread for this. Even epic win wouldn't cover it.
First time I've used the audio guide at a show, and really I've been missing out on a lot. No idea even where to begin. Shows like this make you realise how dependent the world is on the clear genius of inventors/enquirers/artists/explorers/the curious. All findings that represent progression, and discoveries in any and all fields could lay dormant - there's no guarantee a Newton will arrive to push science along, or a Brunel in engineering. That they do is to the benefit of civilisation.
Great people with great gifts and ambition. It's very humbling actually. 'What did you do today?' Not much in comparison to the truly worthy, at a guess. Staring at these drawings was to confront your own sheer feebleness. They were beautiful to look at, mostly, but the thing which ripped my head off was the pioneering spirit which made him look to fill in some corporeal blanks by uncovering the material properties of people. I mean, fuck me. No wonder I can't express it - we're not on the same planet, let alone page. It was a privilege to be anywhere near them - a profound experience.

Shall we start a fine art thread? Ive often thought about it but not sure that there are enough fine art lovers on here

This looks quite interesting. Going to pop down there next weekend and have a look

• #269
^^ Yes we should... I'll start one. Perhaps this one could be merged into it?

Didn't Da Vinci's anatomy work not get published until 100's of years after his death. He was a genius, way ahead of his time, but because it wasnt published none of the work contributed to science until well after it was understood by others.

Well, it is new and it is art, but I can't say it's modern art.
This may well belong somewhere else, but this thread, though dead, had a fair number of hits.
