Thatcher [...] was one of the most devisive politicians ever.
Thatcher was devisive
'Divisive', Clive. You make her sound almost as if she ever devised anything.

It's from the anarchism thread. I copied and pasted it into a quote from here as i could not find a way to copy from one thread to another.
Just click 'quote' under the post concerned and c&p what's in the reply window into a fresh reply on the thread to which you want to move it.

^ Did that story make it over here from Germany? (I'm not too attentive with the news so would probably have missed it if so). It should have, just from the few words on here about it, it makes me feel awful and angry that it happened (to anyone but especially an old boy who was helping others) but even angrier that they are talking about using water cannons in the streets here. Has it come to this? Against our own children? Spontaneous, defiant, protesting children - not armed thugs, organised criminals or terrorists.
Stuttgart 21 was for a while the biggest story in Germany. I'm not too sure what the state of play is right now, but it was almost like the equivalent of people here protesting against Crossrail.

The fact that university has to be paid for does not alone justify getting students to pay for it. Everyone pays for the road out of their income tax, yet to all intensive purposes the road is free to use. It is the benefit to society of having free or well subsidised education which is the relevant factor.
If cuts are to be made then higher education should face them like everyone else, don't argue that higher education should be immune from the cuts, argue that the cuts are unfair, ideological, oportunistic etc, and ask why teaching is cut 80% while the top rate of tax is pittance.

Yes, quite. Arguing that they should pay for their degree is like saying school children should pay for their schooling - not me as I don't use schools and don't have any kids. I've not been to hospital either - don't see why I should pay for that. I've never claimed benefits, needed the police, called an ambulance, personally required the existance of a Royal etc etc etc. I've never used seen my MP's duck house either but paid for that with good humour...

Yes, these aren't cuts though. Increasing fees by £500 would be a cut, and a possibly acceptable one (slippery slope arguments notwithstanding). Trebling them is not a cut, it's an idealogical move.

No it is bang on, talk of water cannon is pushing it. That image is horrific and deserves wider publication in order to help dissuade anyone who think deploying water cannon's is a sensible idea.

I hadn't seen it before either. It's gone on my Facebook and Twitter. If enough people share it the media will pick it up.
Teresa May is vile. Her tactics in Commons today were also despicable.

Sorry, Platters, I just had to quote this for the spelling of 'oeuvre'. ;)
(Or 'œuvre' in French.)
I know you won't mind me picking this up. :)

The BBC correspondent during the live coverage, Ben Brown, really got on my tits too. He tried so hard to play up the violence that he wouldn't even let the people he was interviewing speak if they weren't talking about it.
Ben Brown is a bit of cunt generally.
This protester with cerebral palsy who an officer tipped out of his wheelchair and then dragged across the road is treated like he is guilty of some crime rather than the victim.

Why do so many of them have scarves hoods and balaclavas and then fail to use them?
Learn from the police. They keep their visors down throughout. They also wear uniform which helps to hide their individual characteristics. Some of the students are wearing distinctive clothes as well. Very silly. Clearly they did not go there to cause a riot or they would have been more careful. Best bet is to wear black. A snood or similar over the lower face and head. Hood up. Dark glasses. Gloves. Boots. Reversible jackets can be a good idea.
"Clearly they did not go there to cause a riot or they would have been more careful."
Agreed, at the end of the day you only need to kettle someone in the freezing cold for 8 hours, break their girlfriend's fingers with a shield edge and baton charge them on horses for them to react poorly.

Yep, terrible.
And where on earth does the suggestion that projectiles were thrown by Jody McIntyre come from other than the imagination of Ben Brown !?
