  • my best friend when I was a kid had cork flooring at home (and generally 1970s home decor chic) so I've always liked it.
and I've won a disagreement about having net curtains, at least at the front of the house. what's not to like? I conceded to having plain muslins though, no granny lace...
    no wallpaper though.

  • Exactly, what's not to like. They stop people peering in while letting light through, take next to no hardware to fit, can be washed in the machine and don't take up much space. The other half is having none of it though. :)

  • whiteboard pen on white paint. How to remove?

  • More like one of these

  • Paint over with black paint. And then sds.

  • try ethanol, if you don't have any, vodka might work...

  • Yeah if you drink enough you'll forget all about it.

  • I can feel a draft coming from under the skirting board in a few places where it meets the floor - is the air circulation good or shall I caulk it?

  • If you want mice rats and dog poo and knives.

  • OK that's enough vodka, get some white spirits on a cloth and dab the pen off the wall.

  • We had cork put in our bath about 11 years ago, it's held up well and doesn't seem dated in my view. The click together scene was unproven at the time so we went with glue down 30cm chocolate coloured squares, 7 layers of water based poly over top.

  • Now for sanding.

  • That's going to look fantastic. How much difference in height between the individual pieces? Looks like a few mm in places? And how is it going to be finished?

  • I'm going to ask 6pt for the contact details for his floor sanding people, they'll take the whole floor down to level and then oil it.

  • Aren't you going to decorate first? You'll get paint all over your nice new floor if you're not careful.

  • I want to get skirting board on, so I'd rather sand it all level and get it finished so I can do that and put cloths down.

  • Cloths, well, I don't really trust cloths/sheets. Too easy to still end up getting paint on the floor.

I would get the walls finished, paint them, fit the skirting boards. Then sand. Last job: paint the skirting boards. Then sanders crashing into the skirting boards don't matter, and no need for sheets.

  • I don't think you'd be able to sand right the way up to the skirting board, you'd have to leave a little gap and it'd annoy me.

  • You need to sand the floor before the skirting, then put down the masking tape along the wall and fit the skirting over that. That way you can paint onto the tape a little and just cut it off when done.

Are the walls finished and mist coated? I would do that before getting the floor done as both jobs are messy.

  • I'd also get some of this: http://www.plasterers1stopshop.co.uk/drop-film-masking-tapes-c-55_102.html

Makes the whole thing really straightforward

  • Currently engaged in a futile attempt at soundproofing bedroom ceiling in a ground floor ex-Warner flat, Leyton.

  • You should be able to slide from one end to the other in your socks when that's finished. Nice job.

  • Ignore the haters, that'll look nice once the carpets down.
