  • If you're using Hue and have an android phone then look at Tasker and AutoHue, has some nice features that aren't on the basic app.

  • iOS unfortunately. We only really wanted it to sync to the phillips sunrise alarm clock we've got and it does that so it's all good.

  • what magic is this??????

  • Bed = finished.
Edged with american ash (matt varnished) and made some little bedside tables to go with it.

    A few shots:

  • Finally ponied up for a decent Bosch Professional cordless drill. It's amazing but I naively assumed it would come with some drill bits and screw driver bits which it obviously didn't. Looking for an assortment of everything really. Happy to pay more for quality. Any suggestions?

  • Wera do some good kits of bits. Axminster have a lot of quality drill bits. These days most pros use some kind of quick change mechanism they do make the drill sets more expensive but it's useful to have.

  • +1 for wera and a quick-change-thing. The added distance from the drill is great.

Also think it's a good idea to spend a bit on the bits themselves. You can get heaps of bits for peanuts with the argument that you just plonk a new one in once it wears out, but as it wears out it usually takes a few screw heads with it

  • Gah, killed my Bosch Sds so going to give the Titan 5kg a spin for £60. Two year guarantee, let's see what it's made of.

Today the bathroom got a spanking.

  • That's an enormous project, I'd be feeling very intimidated. Hope you've got a good crew on site.

  • Inspiration taken from picture below, free standing bath with oval rail above, 'glacier' Lustrolite sheets on the back wall, 4 down lights, grey rubber floor. A mixture of fittings from Victoria plum/plumbing etc, this out of all the rooms has budget constraints, sub £2k for the lot.

  • I like the old one.

    ;)

  • Ha, the piss stench might have you change your mind. Hope you're well Mr Sparky

I also need to bribe the builders to help bring the old cast iron bath carefully down the new staircase we just had installed, it's crazy heavy.
New stairs with 36mm packers to accommodate the parquet floor (call it OCD but I couldn't live with a first stair tread smaller than the rest) and the inspiration for a Bauhaus stair handrail/partition I'm going to fabricate that'll go from the stringer all the way up to form the landing bannister.

  • Thanks for that. Those Wera bits look great. Will order some!

  • My old man has smashed a bath in the past and is reticent to do it again, sharp metal splinters for days apparently. I don't have a 9" grinder either so I think it's muscle time and sliding it on scaffold planks

  • I don't even have an extractor... sure you really need one? Kinda feel they are a hangover from the 70's when people cooked fried everything with all the fats.

On a dif note... I want to put a ethernet cable through a wall... its only drywall so should be easy... do wall connectors exist for this kinda shenanigans?

  • The problem is really that the connectors (either couplers or proper terminated ends) are built to be modular and perform correctly, with visuals a distant 3rd place. Actually more like 4th place after price.

What are the light switches/sockets like in your place?

  • Try searing a steak anywhere near the smoke alarm :-)

I just fitted a Miele one, and the fans are so powerful I had to tape the vent hose back on!
Also grease filters you can clean in the dishwasher are an excellent idea.

  • Aye, I hear that one...
I'm actually about to replace all my sockets and bits and bobs as they are currently the most budget awful cheap gubbins... looking at brushed aluminium... someone had a link for fancy metal sockets and switches a while back... can't remember it though,,,

  • More proof that eating meat is for suckers!

  • I'm surprised we haven't yet seen some WeRapha collaboration.

  • Pureed only shirly?
