  • I was looking for this post. The bottom of those unscrews, and contains a rubber seal. That seal gets furred up with limescale. I've cleaned ours off a couple of times, and done it up again, which fixes it for another couple of years, when I then forget what I had done last time, and fuss over it for a week or so before doing it all over again.

    --edit--

make sure you turn off the flow valves to it before doing this obviously...

  • Had to look that one up...
my god, it's full of stars

  • Where do we post pictures of sheds built by other people?
And where can we calculate how much load a shed wall can take so I can work out which hooks/shelves etc?
    TA

  • This thread maybe?

I was sure there was a specific "shed thread".

  • On the subject of sheds, I thought this might be a better place to ask....

I've got a small lean-to outdoor shed with bi-fold doors.

Similar to this but a bit uglier.

Now the nights are closing in its hard to see inside. There is a sensor light outside, but it doesn't shine in without opening both doors.

Does anyone know of a decent internal light I could rig up?

Noting too pricy and due to its location I don't want to wire it into the mains.

    Cheers.

  • You could try a small, rechargeable site lamp. I have one rigged up in my garage (no mains) and it works fine.

Will find link when I get a sec.

Edit: I have something similar to this, but they seem to have discontinued the model I have (mine has legs unscrewed and I have mounted it to the wall):

  • Motion sensitive battery powered security light? https://www.mrbeams.co.uk/

  • Cheers.

Funily enough I saw those and basically decided it was so awesome I'd buy one anyway.

Good to have another +1 for it though.

  • Still need to setup a simple blinking LED on my bike bunker. No alarm or anything, just a red flashing LED that's nicely visible so that burglars will move on to the next garden.

  • If i bought a shed, and it included a removal of the old shed as part of the service, would they remove it and then allow time to assess the ground/ base under the old shed before erecting the new shed?

Just wondering what the process is. Would i need to pull the old one down, review the slab under it. Then buy the new shed? At which point the will take the pulled down shed away?

What state can the slab be in? How does one assess it?

  • Slightly left-field option: I have solar-recharged fairy lights strung up under the roof of my shed. Something like this. They're not bright enough to work by, but they're fine for just retrieving and tidying stuff after dark. The tiny solar panel with one battery goes outside towards the sun and the cable just feeds in through a small gap in the boards. The panel has a switch on the back but that only switches the lights on if it's dark outside.

  • What kind of shed? The wood ones are stupidly easy to remove. I suspect that your slab is probably fine unless you see major issues with the floor of your current shed. Ours was fine to remove and was OK for installing our new bike shed.

Are you looking to get a bike shed or another wood/storage shed? Did you want me to pop around and have a look?

  • Talk to my guy .. @Chalfie used him he is a top lad.

  • @ChainBreaker what do want to do?
Rip down shed, put shed on new base?

    • You will need to arrange skip/getting rid of old shed (most people won't do that). This can take 7 days if not on major route, 30 if on major route.

    • Order shed. this will take approx 21 days to arrive with you

    • arrange person to rip down shed, fill skip, build new shed

    • arrange skip collection

  • Im thinking of a secure outhouse / summer house. Something to store bikes and equipment.

  • wow... Why so complex?!

Why is nothing fucking simple with houses... What have i got myself into!?

  • Insulated? Powered? Bit like ours but smaller?

Then you'll probably need a new foundation.

Poxy metal bike shed roughly same size as the old shed?

    Probably fine.

  • Probably bigger than what I've got but not insulated nor powered. Definitely not sexy like yours or @Soul 's... This is simply to put something large, and 'cheap' to increase resell value. So i guess summerhouse is out. More storage then. Wood i think.

  • Well. Now #brexit
You can rip the shed down yourself, throw it whereever you want (pilgrims way seems to be popular), buy the shed (you'll still have to wait 21 days if it's online and from tiger sheds or somewhere - you can get a local guy in dartford to do it, but it's building and delivery and waiting, so you may as well use tiger), erect it in some semblance of size and shape, get on with life.

Or. If you're time short, book Vlad to arrive when your shed is delivered. Have coffee and biscuits available. Await shed erection.

  • Do kids no longer go round getting wood for the bommy? Try employing some with the promise of a few bottles of white lightning.
