  • Anyone know what this black thing is? Made by Heatrae Sadia. It's dripping and I imagine I need a new one? Looks like I could do it myself?

  • unfortunately you require G3 certification to work on pressurised hot water systems

  • It's coming from where the wide part narrows; you can see a drop forming in the photo. Mrs Sparky says she can see a bulge where it looks like the plastic is giving way a little, but I haven't seen that.

Floor looks like it has been dripping for a while. We've got a towel under the drip for now.

If the part is £110, what's the total damage likely to be? Is there a forum plumber in SE?

  • Hot water at 3 bar is enough to make me think twice about DIY...

  • All fixed...

  • Both windows in and lime mortar pointing done. The mortar will change colour and get lighter over the next few weeks. The coping needs to be put back up on top of the party wall. It's really bright inside now which is exactly what we wanted. Oh, and we are still looking for suitable guttering which is relatively low profile. Will paint the fascia black as that's how the rest of the house is.

Loads of work to be done inside now as this small room extends the dining room which is in an absolute state.

  • Agree, nice and tidy.

  • Anyone know a good chippy in DA15 (Sidcup / SE London / Kent), Am looking for some built-in wardrobes for the bedroom and to get some cupboards added in the kitchen.

  • Gimme 6 months and I might be starting to take on projects like that.

Right now, I need to know what the best uk-available epoxy adhesive is? I need to join some phenol-paper composite sheet board to itself.

Also also, is anyone interested in a whole load of garden slate chips? I'm slowly getting rid of it from my garden. Must be close to a ton I reckon.

  • I'm building a desk and I need to make three cuts to some 45x21mm pine. Will this saw do the job? How shit will a £4 saw be?

  • Yes it will do the job.
£4 saws are really shit but it will do for three cuts

  • I have one of those. It's shit. If you're wanting to cut more, get a better one now and save your money and anger. If you don't, it's fine.

  • I have dropped something into my sink and taken a small chip out of it. This is annoying as I installed said sink less than a fortnight ago. Has anyone had any success filling a chip? What did you use?

I was thinking of trying this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Milliput-Epoxy-Putty-Superfine-White/dp/B002CNEWAM/ref=pd_lpo_201_bs_lp_tr_t_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=74P6WY08Y48KDK0YNRBD

  • Any suggestions where I ask?

  • Got a link to the composite board?

  • My boiler got fixed this morning: £300. Being a grown-up sucks.

Thanks for the advice, though - it at least allowed me to pretend I knew what I was talking about when I called the guy...

  • Yeah if you are in SE London Surrey Quays or willing to come that way I have one you can borrow

  • Anyone got any experience of product for reducing rain noise on a polycarbonate roof? It'll be a newly fitted roof, and I'd like to fit it at the same time as the rest of the roof if there is that opportunity. The area isn't occupied, but our bedroom does lead on to it, so rain noise can be a pain sometimes, but this is probably mainly due to a faulty gutter, which will also be getting fixed.

Light transmission is a priority, I've spoken to one guy who claimed theirs was clear as glass, but it was damn expensive too.

  • You may be able to dampen the noise by adding mass somewhere. For example attaching lead weights somewhere to it. I've no idea what you installation looks like and if that would be a practical solution.

For noise isolation, you either add mass to absorb sound, or de-couple the material where the noise is arriving from the material next to it (eg. Your bedroom wall) using some for, of acoustic insulation; sometimes something as simple as a rubber grommet.

  • So I recently revamped a bathroom and one of the last jobs is the bath panel, I could just buy one but thought it would be nice to make one so I could cover it in the same tiles that I just covered the rest of the room with. Has anyone made a bath panel before, is it worth the effort? A quick search online has yielded a couple of videos on DIY panels but just wondering what the hive mind thinks? Thanks....

  • I haven't made one but I have removed half of one to get to a leaking pipe. My top tip is make sure there's an access panel so you don't end up having to remove tiles with a mallet and pry bar to fix a leak.

  • Yup, good thinking, I had considered that, thought it'd be screwed into place along the bottom edge, but held in place elsewhere via some sort of clips. Beginning to think it's quite a lot of effort, but I think the tiled side will be much nicer than a flimsy plastic one.

  • Tiles and much nicer than any plastic siding etc.

Access panel is advisable but harder to do and more expensive if you're paying someone to do it.

  • Does anyone have access to a decent bathroom fit team...?
I appear to have taken on a complete cunt, and I'll be binning him off this evening... leaving me with a fully stripped out bathroom and a load of boxes of kit to be fitted.

    Needs sparks, carpentry, plumbing.

    Numbers?
    Recommendations?
