Builder has put some of these plug sockets in - why (I'm guessing they're cheaper)? And are they safe/conform to regs?

If they are BS1363 marked then yes they will comply but the builder is a cheeky twat for doing that.
Switched sockets are normal unless you don't want something accidentally switched off.

@tenderloin if you're going to replace them maybe replace them with the type that have built in USB ports?

Hardest bit is the back box, you can swap out the plates for something more poncy yourself. Easy enough install, you can get a basic socket tester for under a fiver to make sure you do it right.

Depends on the equipment. Some can just be 'stand by' switches rather than isolation switches.

So just got up for the bathroom. It's 230am and sure enough, I can hear a washing machine in cycle The gentle part. Soon it'll be the spin cycle which vibrates my bed so much I feel ill. I'm pissed off. I've asked if they can please not do it at night, but they obviously don't give a fuck. What next?

Have I lent my jigsaw to someone? Went to the draw it lives in and it was not there, which doesn't rule out my having put it somewhere odd, but I am normally quite good at putting it back after using it, and I have a vague memory of handing it to someone?

They might get a sub woofer and play it at midnight when back from work?
Can anyone recommend someone to replace an electric shower for me in SE? I've bought that same shower (although it's the newer model) but I don't trust myself with water and electricity...
