  • This (ish) is my summer project.

I want to insulate and plaster board the shed. Then i'll install built in cabinets and a better workbench.

Need to work out whether or not I can be bothered putting a top skim over the board or just leave it.

Also, the windows are single pane. Need to work out if i could replace for double glazing.

  • eBay 'heavy duty wallpaper scraper' It's a 6 inch razor blade on a long handle, try not to be too cheap because the head needs to be fixed to the handle quite securely, you should be putting quite a bit of energy through it.

The scorers are useful but some nails in a stick will get you halfway.

  • It's not that easy, the most important advantage I found was a plasterers bucket. It's taller and more narrow than any other bucket pattern and aids mixing the plaster and loading the trowel. Once you get used to the process it's easier than filling or skimming with filler, then one day you plaster a ceiling perfectly and realise you've got there (took me 25 years).

  • Plaster your garage

    Euph!

  • damn it... not fast enough

  • I need to move and replace the boiler - fucker

  • What's that gonna cost me?

  • £1.5 - 2k? Depends what boiler. I'd try and stick to Vaillant or Bosch Worcester.

  • Also depends if you need new pipes.

  • Dimmer switches. Last time I fitted one I just swapped the faceplates over, I was about 14 at the time. Am I still allowed to do that or do I need to pay a sparky?

  • You can do it.

  • Ta, never know these days.

  • generally as long as you're just replacing something that's already there then it doesn't need to be signed off with building control, if you're adding something new or a new circuit then it does.

  • Nice, so replacing the cable that bypasses the meter is fine :)

  • Well that's put a £2k dent in the budget that wasn't accounted for in my fucking spreadsheet

  • Welcome to homeownership :-)

  • It's really amazing what people keep spreadsheets for.

  • When you're good at Excel every problem can be solved by a spreadsheet.

  • Some thing inside you died when you typed that.

  • I couldn't imagine not having a spreadsheet for something like buying a house and renovating - it would be a fucking nightmare without.

  • or with.

  • probably a fucking nightmare either way

  • Did you know the boiler needed to be replaced?
