  • It'll say somewhere in your lease what you are allowed to and not allowed to modify. In the case of widening a doorway though, I'd be tempted to say fuck 'em.

  • Always a fan of saying "fuck them" I will go with your advice. Technically it's me I am fucking anyway? God knows...

  • Keston c36 boiler

E05 error message which Iis an issue with the fan. Likely need the control unit replacing would be my guess but I'm not a plumber.

Currently no hot water since Friday

  • @chrisbmx116 Just because it's a drywall doesn't necessarily mean it's not structural.

Are you widening a doorway into a boiler cupboard? got any floorplans you can show?

And, technically, yes you will need permission from the other freeholders.

Building control approval can either come from your local council or an approved inspector (a privately run company)

  • Interesting... and yeah, how did you guess? Into a boiler cupboard? Or rather, almost into, but next to, another foot and it would be.
Other freeholders can do one, bunch of jokers. Will contact council though. Thanks!

edit: sod that, just seen the form, just going to do it.

  • how did you guess?

    You wrote it here!

Basically going to be filling an old boiler cupboard with shelving/draws.

  • Ha, joke lost, sorry...

  • Oh, the shame!

  • I'd try and inspect the internal structure before you start pulling it apart. Try and figure out where the studs are situated, and be careful with any wiring which may lurk within.

  • Worth noting that there may be asbestos in an old airing cupboard too...

  • ^ good point. I have a bunch of FFP2 masks which I think (check!) may be suitable for low levels of asbestos.

If you get stuck, Poundland sells masks, but I can't remember if the better ones are FFP1 or 2.

  • Don't try and fix anything yourself. It's illegal for anyone who isn't Gas Safe registered to do any non-cosmetic work to a boiler.

  • Two different things.

  • In rented property, in your own you are free to do what you want.

  • Depending on age it will be in everything ;)

  • No!

In the UK, we have a gas safety law that aims to protect us from
unsafe gas work. It requires anyone carrying out gas work in our homes
or at work to be qualified and registered to do it. Gas engineers must
be on the Gas Safe Register. If they are not, and they work on gas,
    they are breaking the law.

    full 1998 gas safety regs

  • Er yes, look at the regulations. Everything after the meter is possible if you know what you are up to.

    Edit = Competant

  • you could die cause you fuck with the gas after the meter, its ok?

  • Read the regs.

Gas safe is a register run by group 4....that is all.

  • Gas itself doesn't kill. Igniting the gas will cause and explosion.

A certain kind of boiler not running correctly and not burning gas to completion causes CO which is dangerous and kills.

  • So you could die cause you fuck with the gas after the meter, its ok?

  • I didn't make the rules.

  • You could die if you do when you don't know what you're doing

You could die if you ignore a fault

  • Honestly, no.
