Before you level the radiator check the windowsill is level, visually it can be better to match a wonky sill than have the rad plumb

Amazing, thanks again - really appreciate the advice!

Ooh, this is helpful thank you - I only want the boost power anyway, so definitely an option! I want to buy a new 'accessories' pack anyway (have lost the specialist heads and the replacement set is only £10 so reckon I'll get that and a new switch to try) but if that doesn't work I'll definitely be trying this. Cheers

I want to raise the height of a monitor. The base is a bit under 19 x 24cm.
Can I make a plinth 19 x 24?
When you see risers on etsy they're always much bigger. Is there a method / rational / formula to this?
I have limited desk space so just lifting it on the same foot print would be idea.

So I dug out the little trench next to my external wall (cos the driveway was laid too high - up to the air bricks...) and still have some rising damp inside.
Anyone got experience excavating the crap out of their cavity walls (there's no insulation... But I suspect a lot of debris/run-off). Any tips?

You should be able to match the base size but the best option is using the Vesa mount and taking the stand off if possible. Mount it to the wall and get a load of desk space back.

still have some rising damp inside
If you did that 3 weeks ago then it will not have dried out yet. I was once told by a surveyor that brick takes about a month an inch to dry once a source of damp is removed. I think you need to wait a lot longer and then see what the wall is like.

Can you get wall mounted ones with a bit of adjustment?
Also how do you get it off the wall once you put it on?
-
• #43663
I don't know the answer to those questions either as I have a desk mounted arm which clamps to the back edge of my desk. Easier for me than drilling holes in the wall.
This is what I have: https://amzn.eu/d/3oAQOum

what is the ground flooring substructure? my only experience is from doing some prep for new floor boarding to be layed, taking up the old ones up only to find a load of damp soil..

Same size fitting as a TV mount (likely a 20x20cm vesa)
Some drilling required to fit them, but you can get ones that move a bit -

Yeah I have one of these (actually this one https://amzn.eu/d/4w18PrK)).
The trouble is that there is only one screen and the desk is too small. What I'd actually like is something that just fits on the pole bit.

what I'm hoping for is suspended timber, where without much disturbance three or four boards can be lifted, exposing the soil , clear enough for a dehumidifier to be pulling the air from there and in a month it'll start to reverse decades of damp.. but I'm betting it's a lament flooring layed over (as i have and as is so popular in the [pre.viously]rental seen

Or, and more cowboy but less work, drill a circular hole through the flooring to fit the the Henry hoover nose down and turn it on, that'll make the airbrick work

Can you. Not just dismantle the arm and rebuild it with the monitor attachment directly bolted to the centre bit?

VESA arm, will free up all the desk space - Used Ergotron LX is the best and not expensive
-
• #43671
I need to have a look at it again, but I thought that last time I used it and it could only be dismantled so far. After that it requires a bit of destruction.

I've a cardboard box of bits like that - incannsee if there's a single monitor attachment, if you know what diameter the pole is.

@hugo7 AmazonBasics is also an Ergotron LX. The dual arm one I got even had the ergotron manual

Good to know. Unfortunately, there is no way £100 will pass finance when there is already a stand attached and we could put books underneath.
Imo it depends on your capacity to remedy it. Our plaster made a really good point in relation to existing bodges / workarounds - "there's always a reason".
To me the boxing in looks well done. My assumption is that if you remove it you will have to remove the floor boards, redo the pipe work, refit the floor boards.
If you can do that then it will look neater and give you more usable space. If you can't and you're thinking you'll be able to make a smaller box or a neater pipe run, I think it's a waste of time that would be better spent getting a really high quality finish on the box to make it neater.
... Or thinking aloud here insulate that window wall. Then you may hardly notice the boxed section.
