  • Still slowly filling the gap bit by bit before the metal goes on. I'm finding the filler hard to work with, it's very light and fluffy and there's no way to press it into the gap without it simply escaping to the open sides.

  • What filler is it?

  • Looks great. It's always the last 20% of the job takes 80% of the effort.

  • Thanks, it's definitely the bit I was least looking forward to. But it turns out so long I'm no more than a mm or so out, it's an easy fill to mask the sins. The little set back dowels as stops was a stroke of genius from Fittingly. That thin strip would not have been easy to retrieve had I over shot. Going to glue some small tabs onto the backs of the tops of the side pieces so that the top piece lines up there too.

  • Ronseal smooth finish (big hole)

  • I've not come across that one. I'll try and avoid it now!

  • That is a neat idea with the dowels. Very often if the strip is being painted i would use some screws on the face to locate it and help retrieve it if it went too far.

  • I had considered that before I realise about the backstop

  • Tonight's job is finishing spray painting some Poundland baskets to match the customised Aldi toy checkout for mini_com's Christmas present.

  • To be fair it worked well for other applications I've used it for in the past and filled some deep voids nicely with a good finish.

It's not good for this though! Maybe it'll be better when the metal goes on and there's some wall to compress it into.

  • There is also a Zinsser equivalent which I think you prime and then topcoat with a different paint.

I just grabbed the Roseal as that was available in Screwfix at the time. Which you can't paint over. I'd recommend following the instructions properly for the best chance of success.

  • Bit late now, but you can get little bits or fiber that help to bulk it up and sort of clot together more.

  • This is so rad, lucky kid, talented dad.

  • I guess mini_com could also be your wife

  • I was going to make a joke, and even though she'd never read it, I thought better of it.

  • Tiny scrap of ply poking out the top of this piece, screwed and glued on the back. Same on the left hand side for backstops for the top infill. Going to wait until the wardrobes are all loaded up before touching up paint on the filler incase things settle. Still waiting for the replacement door for that last top cabinet, but it is an easy job to fit when it arrives.

  • Holy heck thats sterling work.
    Wanna come scribe mine?

  • Shit scribing, good filling. Seriously, I'm not sharing photos of it pre-filled, may as well have just drawn the line free hand, from downstairs.

  • Ha. Looks great.

    Decorators caulk hides many things.

  • My house in built of 2 parts wood to 1 part caulk.

  • Sounds like you need a bit more caulk...

  • Worst one yet. One to go.

  • this is looking tidy! so good!

  • So nearly done. A couple of screws just holding a particularly springy bit while the adhesive cures.
