All this talk a little while ago about fancy tool backpacks. I wanted a bigger tote to bring tools into the house for indoor jobs. The little IKEA one on the right wasn't cutting it anymore.

MDF? How much does that weigh on it’s own?

Enough

Have you already oiled it? If you do it properly with tung oil you shouldn't need or want to varnish it, wood which has been Shou Sugi Ban'd will be very tough.
Here is my comprehensive 19 step guide!

standard chipboard screws
I think my google is failing. In screwfix etc I just find standard timber screws and then eyeballing to see which have coarser thread.
This is the arrangement I want with the CD shelf on the wall. The 3 'hanging' points for the lower shelf are about 1m apart so I think I'll add an extra partition in each side glued and screwed. Plenty of those little shelves left now anyway.

Do you get black marks and soot everywhere?

Already useful, that would not have been one trip without it.

Been quoted £576 to repair/replace this sill. Seems like a lot…

I just buy the cheap ones from Lidl/Aldi every couple of years.

I was quoted £700 to paint the woodwork on an entire bay window, which seemed like a lot at the time, maybe not so much now.

Erm, is it something you want to do yourself? And why is it just the one

The others are in decent condition. The weather has got in behind the paint and some wood needs to be removed. I’m sure I could cut/chisel it out and put a new bit in myself, but wouldn’t really know what I’m doing. Was expecting it to be about ~£200 for a sill splice/replacement, which I’d be fine with, based on their prices, so not sure why it’s come out so much more.

we have a minimum callout charge of £480 + VAT

I see what you mean, at the first click on the link it was a 'oh fuck me' just at the word "sash window company". The rot will go back along way, much further than when the first bit of decent timber is hit, and the right hand casement side is looking dubeus(sp). So could they do a complete sill replacement for that price?

Solid progress on the garage workshop rebuild.
Benches are finished, and a general tidy up has been done. Also mounted a few things on the other side of the garage and built a quick and dirty bin storage + laundry shelf. To do:
Slide out shelves for tool boxes
Tool wall - I’ve 3d printed some battery storage but that’s it so farMassive improvement over the old one.

With a garage that tidy I can only assume you have a sick mind.
Well done -

Cleaner and tidier than my front room :). Is that a black general waste wheely bin?

Dark grey is recycling, purple is general waste.

Should I remove a fireplace in our bedroom so we can have the bed against that wall? Currently it has to be tucked behind a door which I hate. It's quite a nice old one (but there are equally nice old ones in every other room in the house).
Not done anything quite the same, but screwing extra shelves in with standard chipboard screws should be fine. My IKEA Biily/Benno/Gnedby conglomeration is held together with standard chipboard screws and is pretty sturdy.
