It's not all a bed of roses, getting a 3am glass of water makes a sound like jet fighter passing overhead.

Do you get your supply turned off/drastically impacted whenever the main goes "POOOOM!" on London Road?
I wonder if you are served by a different main from us.

I had terrible water pressure and bought a new boiler as was advised that it could help. It didn't and we thought we'd have to put up with it until we needed to fit a new shower and realised the main water inlet pipe into the flat was completely clogged with limescale. After cleaning it we now have water cannon pressure

This should probably go in the "owning your own home" thread as it's by definition the opposite of DIY but I don't want to distract from the buyers busy buying in there so: can any recomend a good designer/builder to replace a bathroom? I'm nowehere near experienced or handy enough and just someone to do the whole process for me from start to finish.
It will involve trashing the existing, removing the boxed in systern and pipework, replacing all copper pipe with upvc, new tiled floor, plastering, paintiling, tiling, new suite and units, new shower, two new doors and decoration. Plus fitting a new macho extractor fan/dehumidifier and installing another new one in a storage cupboard off the bathroom.
Considering how small the room is, it's a farly big job and I'm not sure who provides all that as a one stop solution. Any recomendations?
Where are you based? If local I can take care of it.

I'm considering the same type of bathroom rip-out and re-fit and am in Harringay so may be in touch over the next few months.

My "up and over" garage door is falling off. It's an old model with large counterweights, not springs. The wooden beam it's attached to is coming away from whatever that is fixed to.
DIY job to repair, or get someone in. If someone - any recommendations in Southall area?

You might just be able to effect a repair, but if you do need to replace, roller-shutter doors are much more secure than the up-and-over type.

Cheers. But we are moving out within 12 months and don't want to spend that amount of money.
Also, looking at six identical garage doors makes me feel like I am in Germany, which I like.

Just seen this - if you are still looking for a plumber, there is a really good bloke in New Cross Gate that I am sure would do the work for you. He got top marks from me for cycling round to have a look at the job I wanted doing. He then did the work quickly and neatly and refused payment until I was sure that the leak had stopped and everything was all good.

Does anyone know someone good and/or cheap for front garden conversions in East London?

We've developed a leak from behind our sink which is weird as it seems the waste part under the plug was made of something that can corrode. It looks like it will be a tricky little thing to replace without moving the sink from the wall which is going to be a bitch. Any idea exactly what this is called?
-
• #3394
Yup, probably the whole unit. I was thinking there might just be a pipe section. Also was wondering why on eartyh that part would corrode so that it is falling apart. I'd have thought PVC/uPVC or brass would have made sense.

What do you want to convert your front garden into?
Parking? A flat to fill with Ikea furniture and rent out to young professionals?
A tropical theme park with a very small indoor rainforest targeted at a Teutonic demographic?

Tighten it up it may just be loose.
Nope, the grey bit is completely ducked and crackedIts called a waste.

Thanks, the wife went into the plumbing centre with the picture. Hard part is now to figure out how to replace it without pulling the sink off the wall.
