  • A proper loft conversion job would be to use an "inbetween and under" technique (all with rigid isulation board) with a 50mm air gap between outer face of insulation and the membrane/felt. Probs requiring the rafters to be built up to accomodate required thicknii. Also requiring a vapour control layer. Kingspan are evil but their tech pdfs are useful for build ups.

If you're just looking to improve the warmth of the loft a multifoil product like Triso Super 10 stabled to the joists might be a way to go resulting in a big shiny nasa space cave.. ;-)

  • I'm happy to do nothing, loft is rarely accessed and am not planning to convert it.

I thought insulating it would keep the rest of the house a bit warmer and would generally be a 'good thing'.

The loft is boarded and underneath that is granular insulation. I could replace that for something better but that would be a right ballache.

    Shiny space loft sounds awesome

  • Is there anywhere other than B&Q that will do colour matched paint? Specifically matching from a physical object, in this case a particular colour from a wallpaper pattern.

  • Dulux decorator centres should do this, I believe?
Took a paint chip/sample and had them match the colour.

  • Thanks. Failing that, how shit is Valspar? Will be looking for something like an eggshell for skirting boards/architrave.

  • Homebase do it too (at least my local one does). Pretty sure they do it with Dulux

  • Brewers will also do this. Dulux decorator centres seem a bit cheaper.

  • Looks like my local Brewers does it, cool. Thought the branch would be too small.

  • Valspar

That's what all our colours are, just out of store convenience and range. I think it's good. It's not all the same feel, we have a solid bold blue and dark green that went on very differently to our Pinterest/basic bitch grey. Thinking about it the other more muted colours have been very easy. Coverage and that sort of stuff is decent. I'd say do it if it's easier.

Fwiw my folks have that super tough dulux stuff colour matched to an F&B colour. Almost 10yrs on I think it's definitely the way to go for high traffic areas.

  • Remember people mentioning the drain and gutter attachment. Free with this pressure washer at Screwfix today.

  • I think I'm with others in saying free drain cleaning pipe isn't free enough. I'd rather pay someone else to do it. šŸ¤¢

  • Guttering and downpipes are DIY territory still

  • Bollocks to that. I'll happily pay someone else to climb ladders.

Which reminds me, need to get someone out about my TV aerial.

  • We have a little courtyard back garden with a communal drain shared between 4 houses and we are the furthest away from the sewer. The trap at the sewer end was blocked with fat so our shared part was filling up with water. Scottish water came and sorted it, but in doing so dislodged more fat and unknowingly blocked it.

A couple of weeks later we had torrential rain and the back garden was 6 inches deep with water, running through the air bricks - I was quite glad we had the drain unblocking attachment!

  • Our neighbour kindly cleared what he could reach of ours.

He has some sort of special contraption that doesn't work due to the ridges in the gutter so he made a diy job out of plastic pipe and a spoon. That works really well. Still scary AF doing it what ever you use.

  • I'll happily pay someone else to climb ladders.

    Fair point.

I've only ever used it at a bungalow or on gutters / pipes that are at head height.

This is an awful mental image

  • This is an awful mental image

    I'm with tiswas

  • Brewers is closest so I think ms_com is going to pop down their today with the wallpaper sample.

  • You should be able to set up an account which will get you a discount

  • 12 days to strip and paint a front door!?

I've spent 6 months not doing it so it doesn't sound that bad tbh

  • Anyone after some Thistle Bonding coat? Got half a bag going spare in SE11.

  • Electrics gone.

This switch won't flip back up.

    What do I do?

    Cheers.

  • Read the instruction book apparently.

Just very tired as both kids were up all night and I did an extra long early shift with them to give my OH a lie in.
