Any ideas for somewhere with legs like this in stock ready to ship? Would love something by Monday.
Don't really care about colour, just needs to be solid and the right size (to fit a 2000mm x 1000mm surface).
(looking for something with top frame or at least a cross bar rather than 2 x a/h/o/etc frames)
Edit: I'd go for something like this but am concerned a chunk of beech that size just screwed into the legs would collapse if it got a hard shove from the end. https://www.thehairpinlegcompany.co.uk/collections/all/products/box-section-square?variant=19767113023542

Given the steel protection running in the cable I'd be keen to earth those in case of a short from a damaged live conductor energising the whole length...

Yeah the amour needs to be earthed, which is done by the gland connection at the DB.

silicone
Is that 'silicone' as in 'Of course, I'll put something to weatherseal the penetrations'?,
or,
'I'll use silicone'?Interior/sanitary/vinegar silicone does not have good unprimed adhesiononto timber or PVC.
Building/low modulus silicone also benefits from priming.Could I suggest the Soudal Fix All (Toolstation 61251)
or Fix All High Tack, (Toolstation 84704)If £6+ per tube is a bit much,
the solvented Gripfill (TS 79360 £2.28) will do an adequate job.
Other suppliers are available,
TS catalogue was to hand. -

Just fitting some new handles to our internal doors and there is play in the action once installed.
On further investigation the opening for the spindle in the handle isn't a normal square shape.
Has anyone seen this before? I'm wondering if it needs this type of spindle instead

This is annoyingly neat. And makes me think I should make more of an effort/put boxes on. We’ll see.

The rest of it is a dogs dinner, but i'm not showing pics of that!

Hadn’t really thought about it beyond “I’ll whack something in there”. We’ve got a mostly full tube of stixall that should do the job.

Might have to get you to pm me them, when I’m feeling sad/frustrated halfway through this job.
Needed something grabbing from toolstation that I forgot, so father in law offered to pop out for me to save me time. 2 hours later I’m still waiting as he’s apparently decided to run some other errands. It’s a 20 min round trip. This job is never going to get finished.

I think those groove spindles are designed for handles where there is a grub screw in the handle to tighten down on them. The groove (and thinned metal part) then looks like it is designed to flex and return some kind of preload back to the grub screw so it doesn't undo. Usually seen more on exterior doors (at least thats where I've seen them). The cross section is still square though, so it may just be that your handles are loose. Looks like they used a (too) large diameter initial hole before the square was broached. Might have to live with the play, try to find chunkier spindles, shim the spindles out or return them.

There's about 1mm of play around the whole spindle. Not a satisfying experience.
I'll have a look for chunkier spindles.
What could you use to pack it out? Would folded paper hold up?
At least there's only 6 to do

Topstiles have quite a range.

Will the lock/latch take a larger spindle? If not, shim the handle

Beer can or these

Looks like my spindles are 7mm so probably cheaper just to buy new 8mm spindles!

Bingpot!

• #26743
Yep. Actually ordered those sleeves as the spindles are cut to size and I cannot be arsed to do that.

Does anyone know where I can get something like the attached ?

Are they the snappable ones?
or

Most places should have them

Frustrating!
Rules to live by when you have unusual skills; special case: never do anything for friends and family. General case: never do anything for anyone :)
Hope it doesn't get you down too much.

Ha, it’s all good really. It’s my first job as a sparky, and they are very patient/in no rush at all, so it’s nice to get on with the job without other pressures.
I did get a little wound up when at 7pm my father in law wanted me to reposition something by 8 inches based on nothing beyond a whim. But their patience otherwise does earn them a bit of give and take I guess. It’s my mistake of not rejecting minor alterations really.

Yeah, I couldn’t see anything, was more just wondering about the general convention of how these things are done.
