It's the labelling for the "comedy" section of the DVD collection, silly.

What's the best way to allow a sash window to dry out?
I've stripped out a load of rot, and had the window sill dressed, but before I start on any longer term repairs (filling in the wall blow the window frame & filling the wood) I want to let it dry properly.
I'm thinking I can just jury rig a covering with a bit of Proplex that I have lying around.
Having the bottom half of the bay window covered in black polypropylene for the next 6 months does seem a bit building site chic though - Are there any smarter / less ghetto solutions?

I got a hot air gun and blasted that sucker for hours. Probably not the best solution but I wanted it done.

Pretty basic problem for the DIY thread but: Our kitchen sink has gone from freely draining to totally blocked in the space of a day. I've taken the trap out and checked that and the pipe immediately below the sink for blockages and they're both completely clean. My wife wants me to buy some caustic unblocker gel and fling it down there which is always her nuclear solution to any slow-running sink but I'm pretty reluctant to risk having it just sit there in the trap and burn the shit out of whoever opens it up the next time since we've established there's nothing immediately obvious there for it to dissolve. I'm a bit of a plumbing idiot, is there anything else I can do that might have an effect? Our landlady hasn't responded to my email about our malfunctioning hot water pump so I can't imagine she'll exactly jump on this.

Where about in london are you? Got one of these if you near N22.

I've got lime mortared walls, unfortunately, which means drying is in the months, rather than hours.
I'm pretty sure the other half would object to me monopolising the hair dryer for that long.

Never used one before but if I can't get hold of my landlady in the next day or so it may come to that, thanks! I'm actually pretty close in N4.

Oh yeah I forgot to say I tried plunging with no effect, although I should really buy a proper sink plunger I suppose. The overflow on our sink is a real PITA as well; it's tough to block it properly because of where it's placed and the way the sink is shaped.

Is it possible to put the caustic stuff past the trap, assuming you feel like taking it off again? Also do you have access to the other end? My mums flat has very poor (i.e. uphill) runs to the main drain, but we have an end-cap outside that you can get to to try and rod it out from there

Might be able to if I get a bottle I can angle in there once I have the trap off? I'll try that if a beefier plunger doesn't shift it.
Unfortunately we don't have access to the other end, or at least I wouldn't feel safe having a look as we're in an attic flat and I'd have to climb out of a skylight and squat precariously on the roof. -

Getting daughter 1 & 2 rooms skimmed.
Stripping wallpaper and backing paper isn't easy even with a big fuck off sized stripper. Been going solidly all day and I've just about finished the walls of one room. It'll be three solid days of work including the ceilings to get both done I reckon. Millwall 4 life.

Jup, that’s one shitty job. We found out that the plaster behind it was bad so had to learn to plaster 😂

I tackled it today with a multitool and found a loose tile at the side. Removed the tile and found some ply held together with cobwebs... It’s fucked isn’t it!

That's not a massive surprise but you have got a job on your hands now! It's one reason that artisan hand made showers worry me, if it goes wrong it can go very wrong.

Yep. The main shower tray bit appears to be solid (although I can’t see the framing, it doesn’t feel rotten) but I’m tempted to rip it out and start again. The floor needs redoing as well anyway!
