  • I had a wet system installed in the ground floor of my last house...loved it. We had a tiled floor from the front door to back door (open plan) and oak in the front room. As this was a fairly new house (50's Semi) it was all over a concrete base, so it retained the heat. Also the lack or Rads meant we could put furniture where ever. Its the one thing we really miss in the new place.

Also had an electric setup in the bathroom upstairs....that was also ace, though not so when your wife cranks it up to 35 degrees to dry out the bathmat (and then forgets leaving it on for hours so when you stepped into the room, you burnt your feet and all the moisture from the eyes evaporated) .

  • I've had some timber double-glazed sashes installed recently. PM me if you're interested in a review.

  • ^^ but where would they retire to smoke cigars?

Also the bike room has a clear door outside for muddy rides.

No YOU'RE a muddy ride etc.

  • Limited by very old stone walls and trying to keep in keeping with original layout.
No loft as that is the master bedroom so need the store room for loft stuff.

It's ok I have a 100sqm outbuilding for the bikes...

  • Joys of living in the country....

500sqm for the price of a 1 bed flat in zone 1...

  • You got me there. I have to drive everywhere but I get to choose between the car, pickup, tractor or telehandler...

  • I assume it's a bad idea to conceal a u-bend completely behind a cabinet? If I trim the waste back a bit I can fit everything behind the cabinet. Obvious solution seems to be to make the panel at the back removable incase anything fucks up in future.

  • Welcome to shitty house waste drainage.

    1. Yes, you can make the panel easy to remove.

    2. Don't put food down the sink.

    3. Buy some 98% acid unblocker.

  • Should have been clearer, I'm re-fitting the kitchen with new cabinets and I'm just re-thinking the waste layout before I refit, it's not actually blocked (although has been before and it is totally shitty, with very little drop).

I'm going down to a 600mm cabinet below the sink in order to cram a dishwasher in so under-cupboard space will be at a premium and there's a nice big void behind where it may as well sit.

  • Definitely make it easy access. Has there ever been a U bend that doesn't need maintenance once in it's lifetime? Word of warning about the 98% Acid. If it doesn't clear the blockage it can heat the u bend up and burst it, then you have to clear up acid. I've never had one burst on me but I've had to vacuum it out of pipes before.

  • I've just seen a lazy rat I've chased out my garden twice now.

    Is this a problem?

    Or is it just wildlife?

  • Rats being lazy? Just wildlife I think - I blame the parents. Should inculcate more pride and activity.

  • Lazy as it was barely scared of me when I stormed out the house to chase it!

    It didn't give one fuck

  • not lazy, 'tude

  • My upstairs bathroom, which is of the wet room variety, has a smell of damp that comes out of the shower drain. Not permanently and it seemed to get better for a couple of days when I poured a bottle of HG unblocked down it.

Any idea what might cause this and how I can properly fix it?

  • Lols.

In these hayfever months I shower three times a day, some days.

  • Yeah, I'm totally happy in my shoebox thanks, still not at all interested in your massive farm house, doesn't look appealing at all, and I don't even care...

    ...

  • Ha, trust me a big farmhouse = a big money pit

  • I hope your sobs echo through your kingdom...

  • Yes good job farmers haven't shot themselves in the foot by mass voting leave... oh

  • Was going to have a go at fitting new laminate worktops this weekend, then I started watching youtube videos and scared myself. I'm guess this is a cheap and dirty alternative to mitring top at 90° and doing things properly with routers and jigs etc?

*actually more like 100° as the walls are on the piss of course.

  • Stripped sanded and repainted the front fence this morning...
