  • Perhaps the gyratory route is the wrong plan. I will get bikely out in a bit and have a tinker.

Thinking each stop would be a pub, if only to keep the volunteer marshals happy.. 3 recruited so far.

  • What you're describing would be more of a race, rather than an alleycat, as it's just about speed around a route. Thinking back on the demographic of the first few alleycats, this would put the huge majority out of the running straight away. In reality there's about 6-7 of us who ride them at 20mph+ and about 20 who ride them at 10mph. Just saying...

It would be more inclusive if it was about checkpoint tasks, finding obscure spots and that sort of thing. Not that I'm not up for a balls-out race, but it would probably be miserable for most people who enter.

Valid point - this is only Norwich, after all.
There will probably always have to be some element of navigation to make it interesting for everyone - you could certainly do stops at pubs etc, though - pub name + road name.

Though I guess even if you did suggest that there is a moustache-shaped ideal route around the checkpoints, that doesn't actually tell people where the checkpoints are nor what actual roads and route to take between them, so it would still reward riders based on navigation as well as their doping regime.

  • This guy is ready to fucking roll.

    Are you?

  • The Facebook page has gone down. Is this still on?

Is there a route or prizes sorted yet?

  • My moustache will be in full effect, no fear.

When I say "full", I actually mean whispy and patchy.

    It works for me

    STOP PRESSURING HIM!

  • ^why, we always pressurise Dan!^

  • Is there a route or prizes sorted yet?

Checkpoints pretty much sorted, no prizes yet though. Beginning to regret putting that on the poster. Maybe should have made it small print. Any ideas?

  • Moustache wax?

Flee the country! Leave all your troubles behind and start a new life abroad.

  • That's your only hope now. What have you tried to get prizes? I assume you've approached bike shops? Usually people do that before the flyer so that they can get some publicity - logo or something

  • Surely that's obvious Matt! Hahahahha

  • Sorry Mark, I'll stop suggesting things. Dan clearly has this well under control.

  • I clearly do not have it at all under control and would appreciate any assistance sourcing prizes/recruiting marshals..

That said I am going to have a busy lunch-break today, have printed a few of the posters out (having correct the spelling) so will drop into a few places and see what I can rustle up.

  • To be honest, any old shite will do as a prize really. It doesn't have to be "good" or have any value. Just a hand shake for the winner and a cold slap for the loser, that's how it was in my day.

  • Aye well if I have no joy, will do silly/edible/drinkable prizes. Would be nice to have some engagement from our LBSs but I guess it is short notice. Had I not had such an interesting month I would have got the ball rolling earlier.

  • I am only takin the piss!

If I get a chance, I will see what I can do prize ways!

On another note, I am well and trully out of the running for best moustache! Got fe up and lost it this morning. God I forgot how weird I looked without it!

  • It was 79 days old, so not a pure Movember tash! + the only reason I know its age is cos its as old as Caleb, my second son!

  • Massive rep to Streetlife Cycles for getting involved and pledging a prize or two.

Posters now up in Streetlife & the Bicycle Shop..

    Checkpoints - check (ish).

    We're almost rolling.

    Bring it!

  • What are the prizes?

  • 500 assorted streetlife stickers!
    A streetlife truckers cap!
    Some valve caps!
    A rear brake cable!

  • I'm going to make sure I come in fourth place so I land that sweet, sweet cable.

  • Damn, posters and shit? What if some actual good cyclists come and race? We'll be done for :(

  • I am gonna look into it. May make him a custom cycling cap with a movember style... Just so the old Cult Of The Pursuit can do its bit!
