  • Yep Fusion360 can do flat patterns from sheet metal parts, not sure about stress analysis though.

  • Nice one, I'll be using wood for this, but apparently there's a free hobbyist licence, so I'll check it out.

  • More making. Couple of turned then laser etched containers, one for salt, one for whatever.

  • Fusion is nice, but unless you are very experienced with stress analysis in CAD I'd leave it alone. It is much easier getting something wrong than getting something right, unless you know excactly what you're doing.

  • Ok, I'll not bother with that aspect then. TBH I'm pretty sure the structure should be sound, it would just be a bonus to check.

  • If you're used to woodworking, you probably already have a good idea about what'll hold and what won't.

There's just so many little aspects that influence the result of your simulation - better to do some full scale models or just over engineer whereever possible.

  • If you're used to woodworking

...about that... Not done anything like this since Uni 10+ years ago. It's a trial run for my own home, but my do a batch of smaller versions if it goes well and see if they sell on Etsy etc. FWIW the material in question will be 19mm Valchromat, which is apparently stronger than MDF, so I think I should be alright

  • just got my kit for these

    Time to get stitching

  • Interesting, you have a link?

    Edit, at kboy

  • I tried to reach the guy about a set of patterns - no avail yet. I wanna build some too!

  • He's been good with comms when I've emailed, but it's taken a few days each time. Not sure about copyright etc, it seems be a pretty open source project, but if he's cool with me I could make you a copy of my patterns. If you're a UK9 ish that is :)

  • Scored some of this oak, its recently felled. What should I do with it to season it?

  • Stack it somewhere dry, airy and unheated and forget you have it for at least 3 years.

  • I was thinking my unheated loft would be ok?

  • All the logs I've kept have split at the ends, sealing them might help prevent that.

  • Alright thanks, I'll try to be patient then.

Since I'm a 12-ish I'll probably need the pattern from him anyway. ;)

  • @moocher

You can paint the ends with any old paint. It’s worth doing.

If you stack them, put inch thick sticks between them.

    You want ventilation.

  • Did you receive your pattern yet?
I'd really like to make a pair but I missed the kickstarter. I emailed him a a couple of times and sent a message on instagram but I never got a response.

  • more making - glasses pouch out of an old sofa and some random paisley, laser cut and monogrammed

  • Yeah i've got my kit. Tried the contact details here? http://alvar.darlingdesign.se/

  • Yes. I've found two email addresses and tried them both.
Glad you got your kit. Have you made them yet?

  • No but it's on my list. Quite a lot on that list though...

  • Like the laser monogram.

  • If I don't hear back from the guy (it's been about a month now though), would you consider sharing the pattern with me?
I'll give you a few quid and/or a forum donation. Maybe PM me if you're up for that.
