I decided to have a go at making a bust. Always fancied having a go. It’s very much work in progress I’ve got the basic structure down but as you can see his head’s way too big so will need to address that.

Started these. I’m going to bring in the bottom of the dish at 45 degrees a little.

Are there any craftspersons here who work with leather? I'm just starting, as a rank amateur bodger.
-
• #2106
Yep. There are a few I believe.

Lovely. Your own work?

Yep. Cheers. Although. My two year old leaves very little time for making things these days

Just get heavy canvas, will be better in all ways.

^ This, vegan leather is basically just plastic. I've heard better things about Piñatex specifically, and at least that's mostly made from bio materials, tho it still has a PU resin coating.

I had a play with biothane for straps. Not a nice material to work with. Strong though

Anyone know of a good online guide for achieving different finishes? I'm restoring/altering old jackets and coats and boots, using my stash of leather scraps. Am experimenting with Furniture Clinic products and Angelus paint and finishers.

Thanks. Will look into it.
I was looking at a video where they show you how to culture mycelium fungus and then wax and press it with heat to make a very tough vegan leather. Seems hard to do though.

Enjoyed my Mig course. Made the second, slightly larger table in just over 2hrs in the end which I was pleased with. Will make some tops at work.
Recommendations for simple projects? Got a bunch of 25mm box at work I can use. Could do with a mitre clamp though.

Made a storage thing. No real purpose to it apart from making the grain consistent across the drawers. Didn't consider handles. Would do differently.
Pics. Probably not the right order

I thought that would be great for storing records until I saw the glue pot for scale 😂
