Ideally I'd like to go visit a place. There's a reclaimed wood place near Oxford but nothing closer to Reading that I know of.
I'll give a couple of those places a call and see what they might have

Moss & Co in Perivale. Just off the A40.

Theres a guy in Oxford who buys trees from tree surgeons, planks and seasons them. I cannot remember the name of his business but I will dig out the details and get them to you.
You could also try Benson sawmills in Wallingford although you may need to season it before use, you have to ask them I've only ever bought high grade construction lumber from them.

The guy I was talking about in my previous post was Blaise in trees which is in dinton, bucks.
It's not much nearer reading but Tyler hardwoods may be worth a shot

More thin wood action. Cleaned up a couple of tobacco tins, lined the bottom and side with wood and added dividers.

Impressive fiddly work. Is this a fancy laser wood cutting machine?
-
• #1936
Yes, laser cut out. Took a few attempts to get the sweet spot between bendy and snappy.

Looks lovely so far. If you don't have to rush these are nice jobs to take on.

Would I be guessing correctly if I said you were using a 15w laser module?
Toying with fitting one to my CNC and can't decide if 5w would be enough for what I plan to do.

I grew up racing Merlin Rockets. Really beautiful boats.
Be great to know what number it is. Do you know much about it's history? Looks like a Guy Winder built NSM 2 or similar.

Much more lasery than that. I had to look it up; it is 90w but limited to 68w.

I picked up a little aircraft torch for sheet metal and tubing. Here it is all cleaned and leak tested. Got to fireproof the garage a bit more before I can start melting stuffβ¦.

Itβs a βSmokers Satisfactionβ, 70s, I canβt remember the maker I will have to check next time I visit to do some work on it (borrowing a garage). It is a beautiful boat but it needs a lot of work right now!

Aaaah, will be worth every moment spent I'm sure.
Smokers Satisfaction was a Phil Morrison design IIRC but think a lot of builders built them. Could be a Spud Rowsell or Jon Turner. Either way, real nice to see one pop up on here !
