A non forum friend of mine plans to be doing a very similar thing at a very similar time. I'll get him to check in here and you two can perhaps exchange notes..

I might be up for some of the England leg, but I'll need to arrange childcare. What time are you setting off?

Why is it always to Australia?

Quite early i think, so as to avoid the traffic. I should add that it's pretty hilly on the way to Dover. Have you had much experience of long rides before?
Why is it always to Australia?
London to Ulaanbaatar doesn't have the same ring to it

This is really bizarre.
I am cycling from Sydney to London at the same time.Maybe we could high-five when we pass each other in th middle?
Keep me updated.

• #9
Cool, lets say cross on the Pamir highway in Tajikistan. Low-five for me, though.

Precision will be the key to success.

I'm doing my trip on a tall bike.
The high-five will be at optimum level if my measurements are correct. -

We can practise at HH

But one of us will have to be going the wrong way round?!?
I'm pretty sure that's not allowed. -

graduate in 2012
work a shit load until 2014 (doing a job which hopefully isn't my dream job/anything with massive future prospects).
ride to the other side of the world
I'd love to do something as epic as this, any idea on what your budget may be for the trip?

My girlfriend says that the key is to focus on the elbow.

• #18
She clearly knows what she is talking about.

Your welcome at mine in Oz, should be back home in 2012.

My girlfriend says that the key is to focus on the elbow.
Lies. You have to look your high five-ee in the eyes and it works every time.
This trip sounds amazing. Best of luck in getting it all organised.

Raises hand for the China onwards leg.
Supposed to be cycling to Japan at some point but waiting for my riding partner (Dad) to shake of a bout of prostate cancer he seems to have developed. When we complete this and then if you don't mind me tagging along with you, will effectively mean I have cycled around the world.

Sounds great - in!

Drat! Just checked with the missus and I'm busy
So... i've decided to expand this idea and cycle round the world. Go big or go home, right?
The plan is to set off on my Birthday in 2016, and ride through 113 counties over the course of 7+ years.
Accommodation will be sourced from Couch Surfing and Warm Showers wherever possible awith a good deal of wild camping and hostels, living off an average of £10 per day outside of fixed costs such as flights, visas, and emergencies.
It's unlikely that anyone can take years out of their life to go on a forum ride, but hopefully certain legs will be of interest to some?... and i'd certainly be glad for company at times. The general plan and a detailed map is below. The bold waypoints are the only timings that i'm concerned with, as they facilitate the crossing of mountains, avoid monsoon seasons, and eliminate conditions of extreme heat or cold.
Piece of cake.
