Hadrian's Wall walk is a good LDT (Long Distance Trail). Start at the Bowness on Solway and finish in Newcastle. The walking route is not the same route as the cycling one and there are better views.
Coincidence! I just agreed to do that one with my parents. My Mum is well keen to do a long distance trail.

And Vegemite and cheese...
only half repped. vegemite. do not want. marmite yes.
but, before we get into vegemite vs marmite vs promite and then pie vs crumble, i think each to their own when it comes to yeast extracts.
that's a rarphar sandwich right there.Kendal mint cake.
do not want.

My power sandwich is Sainsbury's Belgium chocolate spread, crunchy peanut butter and sliced banana.
That's bread-WIN-bread.

Looks great Digger. I've loved cycling in Wales. I could give walking it a go.
Shit I almost live there - it's easy to get to ;)My mate suggested Hellvellyn but my orienteering isn't so hot these days (last time I used a compass I was about 10) and I'd prefer not to get stuck up a mountain somewhere.

Helvellyn is easy to navigate, you'll have no problem. Simply follow the crowds up the path from Glenridding car park and you'll soon find yourself on striding edge leading to the summit. On a nice day, this is one of the finest walks which is only marred by the volume of people.
Obviously it isn't always going to be packed with people, but on a busy day you more than likely won't need a map to find your way up there.*
*always carry a map blah blah.....

This might be a silly question.. are there any public transport options in the area? Google Maps is showing bugger all in the way of trains.. does everyone drive up there?
-

One of the biggest problems with walking, just like MTBing the massive car parks!
Hitch hike or cycle?

6 hrs driving to get there, longer on the way back, I don't often drive anymore but what can you do? I once caught the train, it was very pretty but then someone had to meet me at the station...

Arse biscuits. I thought Australia and the USA were the only places you 'had' to drive.
I will find a car-free way, damn it all. If I have to take a week off and walk from the station.. -

Sofa, bike, train, bike, walk, bike, pub, stumble,b&b, bike, train, bike, sofa.
Easy.
Penrith is the nearest station, I think.

There are quite often ways with buses as well. Otherwise it's join a club but then your'e stuck with other people. I've driven to plenty of places but I've also ridden and locked my bike up before as well.

Just what I was going to say, but I'm more taken by his boots, the cake must have stunted his growth.

Going to Wales the end of Nov for a long weekend.... staying in an awesome looking challet near Bala, Eastern border of Snowdonia NP. Any recommendations for walks?

Dun some walkin' lately. Last weekend did a bit of the green chain with another forum member who shall not be named lest he be associated with this less distinguished form of transport. Quite pleasant really.
But there are some guided walks this weekend (both days) in London, if you go in for that kind of thing.

i fucking hate walking
fencing and cycling have made me really unfit for this most basic of exercise, plus as i seem to be in sidi special-needs-kid shoes so much of the time it becomes even less comfortable
And Vegemite and cheese...
