Its possible, disinformation has always been used by governments. However in this case much of the content makes them look stupid, so I don't think that is what is happening in this instance.

I don't do conspiracy theories, but I have a fanciful notion that the reason the US don't want Iran to have nukes, and the reason Iran want them so badly is that once the oil runs out the United States will have no further use for the middle east and plans to solve the problem of islamism once and for all by obliterating the entire region in a nuclear firestorm.

Pure supposition on my part, but people like Palin make me wonder if it's true.

That rape allegation, from what i gather in swedish media, is just words against words. The women claim he raped them, he claims he didn't. It's also been a good few rounds of suspicions on why / how they charge him, it's a bit of debacle really.
