  • Mr.Assange is apparently staying in a Suffolk mansion for his bail. If I see him I'll be sure to shout 'do a skid'

  • Not until the appeal is heard.

  • So.. I don'y really give a fuck about the leaks. Only a naive idiot would think that these kinds of communications don't go on at high level goverment. But the whole thing with Assange being imprisoned really does stink of something other than an alleged rape case in Sweden

  • ^Ms Naomi Wolf

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/naomi-wolf/jaccuse-sweden-britain-an_b_795899.html

In other words: Never in twenty-three years of reporting on and supporting victims of sexual assault around the world have I ever heard of a case of a man sought by two nations, and held in solitary confinement without bail in advance of being questioned -- for any alleged rape, even the most brutal or easily proven. In terms of a case involving the kinds of ambiguities and complexities of the alleged victims' complaints -- sex that began consensually that allegedly became non-consensual when dispute arose around a condom -- please find me, anywhere in the world, another man in prison today without bail on charges of anything comparable.

Of course 'No means No', even after consent has been given, whether you are male or female; and of course condoms should always be used if agreed upon. As my fifteen-year-old would say: Duh.

But for all the tens of thousands of women who have been kidnapped and raped, raped at gunpoint, gang-raped, raped with sharp objects, beaten and raped, raped as children, raped by acquaintances -- who are still awaiting the least whisper of justice -- the highly unusual reaction of Sweden and Britain to this situation is a slap in the face. It seems to send the message to women in the UK and Sweden that if you ever want anyone to take sex crime against you seriously, you had better be sure the man you accuse of wrongdoing has also happened to embarrass the most powerful government on earth.

Anyone who works in supporting women who have been raped knows from this grossly disproportionate response that Britain and Sweden, surely under pressure from the US, are cynically using the serious issue of rape as a fig leaf to cover the shameful issue of mafioso-like global collusion in silencing dissent. That is not the State embracing feminism. That is the State pimping feminism.

  • ^^
    Well fucking said, Ms Wolf.

  • So very right on so many levels..

  • has anyone else chipped in a quid to get assange bailed ..... no me neither

why don't they just get a plumber in to fix the leak ?
thankyou i'll be here all weak

so assange gets detained ( still innocent ) bianca jagger says they don't even hold terrorist suspects for this long without charges / ( is she someone we should be listening to or is she in it for self publicity ? )

  • well the whole thing is a bit fishy to me.

Now if wikileaks could get hold of top secret documentation sent from high rnaking US officials to high ranking Swedish/british officials regarding requests for detaining Mr Assange then that would be pretty damaging and I guess make the problem easier to fight/get people on his side

  • And if you think Assange is having a bad time, Bradley Manning has been in solitary confinement for 7 months locked in his cell for 23 hours a day with no pillow or sheets on his bed and not allowed to even exercise. Also not charged with anything yet.

    http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/2010/12/14/manning/index.html

  • that entire salon article seems to have been written specifically to get a high rank on a google search for the words 'inhumane torture solitary confinement bradley manning' and so on.

you can pretty much condense the whole thing in to two paragraphs.

    from the article:
But ultimately, what one thinks of Manning's alleged acts is irrelevant to the issue here

agree, so why dedicate a whole segment to it.

sorry but there is so much nonsense in this article i don't even know where to begin!

  • Well, If there's a point to be made then starting somewhere would be good..

  • para2

*WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is in solitary confinement in Wandsworth prison in advance of questioning on state charges of sexual molestation. *

    OK

Lots of people have opinions about the charges. But I increasingly believe that only those of us who have spent years working with rape and sexual assault survivors worldwide, and know the standard legal response to sex crime accusations, fully understand what a travesty this situation is against those who have to live through how sex crime charges are ordinarily handled

    read as:
Before I start this article, I want to make clear that I've written articles about this sort of thing before, I've worked with rape victims in the past, therefore my opinion is automatically worth more than your opinion, so please read on and i'll tell you what to exactly what to think, instead of being objective and letting you form your own opinion on the matter at hand.

-- and what a deep, even nauseating insult this situation is to survivors of rape and sexual assault worldwide.

unnecessarily emotive language, rape victims are not 'survivors', no need to liken them to holocaust victims. it devalues the term. i don't like that.

  • Explaining that you have experience to back up your opinions.

    Fucking left-wing media!!!

  • i don't like that.

    I don't like that.

  • ...unnecessarily emotive language, rape victims are not 'survivors', no need to liken them to holocaust victims. it devalues the term. i don't like that.

I feel that rather being a journalist she is in fact lending her considered opinion in a editorial comment.

Her choice of the word "survivor" is no doubt formed from her work with rape victims.. I don't feel it's unnecessarily emotive.. I can only imagine how horrific rape could be and many victims may well feel that they are survivors..

The word survivor is not the exclusive property of holocaust victims is it.

  • Holocaust victims and people who visit Croydon. That's it.

  • That's it.

    That's it.

  • That's it.

    That's all.

  • Holocaust victims and people who visit Croydon. That's it.

    I'll grant you that..

  • That's all.

    That's all.

  • That's all.

    That's the ticket.

  • Holocaust victims and people who visit Croydon. That's it.

    I'm an X-factor survivor.

  • no one survives the x factor
