Change of bike means I've no longer got a rack, hence, need for these.
I've got a 40L back roller classic in blue (wiggle price for a pair £93) - great nick, has been on an outing to tesco twice (oh the lucky thing!).
And a 25L back roller classic in black (wiggle price for a pair £76).... this one has had a bit more use, but its still in great condition (no scuffing on the bottom).
Having different sizes is pretty convenient for touring. Both have a 25 year waterproof warranty.
I'd like to sell both for £75. Interest? -

I saw these Brooks Devon Panniers on a Heritage in Condor the other day, and they looked very lovely:
They are mind meltingly expensive however at about £450 for the pair. I don't now much about panniers apart from Ortliebs - does anyone know of any other makes available that look a little more 'classy luggage' (for want of a better word) like, like the Brooks, campared to the Ortliebs or Caradice?

Gilles Berthoud is your man. Don't be put off by his dreadful website.

While there are threads that discuss the merits of particular panniers I have searched but haven't found one that says which is best so...
Ortlieb get great reviews but they have no small pocket and take a bit of time to get in to. Vaude are similar. Carradice Super C I really like the look of but are reputedly very heavy and not totally waterproof.
I've done a fair bit of touring with £25 SJS bags that were great but have just about fallen apart over the last five years so I'm looking to make an investment and would appreciate your comments and advice if you've had good experiences with the usual suspects mentioned above or others.
Thanks.
Jim.

Bump
Tired of carrying a backpack, so its time to make the full transition into being a grandad, and get some panniers. Does anyone know if the Ortlieb classics are worth the extra over the city rollers? Hadn't started out expecting to spend £100 on panniers tbh but if I got the city rollers and wish I had the classics instead, that would be quite irritating

I think the only differences is that the city rollers don't have a shoulder strap.
In my experience a shoulder strap is something I definitely want otherwise carrying your gear off the bike is a paff.If you're just using them for about town, then don't get these (40L)
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ortlieb-back-roller-classic-panniers/
as they're massive. If you just want a single smaller Ortlieb one, I'm selling a single black ortlieb front roller (25L)
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ortlieb-front-roller-classic-panniers/It's in really good condition.
I need to buy a pair of back roller classics as I'm going touring across Europe this summer and need the capacity. I was hoping to pick up a single 2nd had one to compliment the front roller that I've got, but no luck. Think I'll have to suck it up and spend the £80 on a new pair :(
PM me if you're interested in the single for £35.

I'm going touring in the summer on a long tour to Germany, i have a 1983 Holdsworth Mistral which i intend to go on however i am clueless about racks. There are eyelets in the seatstays for a rear pannier rack, and i only intend to use rear panniers. So which are the best/most stable/least cumbersome rear lowrider racks out there?

I think you can buy an accessory strap for the city rollers. I don't know if its any good but might be what I will go for. I think I have something similar anyway lying around at home to avoid spending money.

Is there a thread on panniers, racks, luggage etc? If so, I can't find one - please move if one exists.
Anyway, does anyone know of someone who makes a rack-top bag to fit a 15" laptop? Topeak make one but it's ugly (and unavailable).
Any other suggestions?

hi
I do a short 10mile round trip commute to work and have been lugging panniers for some time now.......
Today i put on a shoulder bag and stuffed my goods in and off i went. I went like the wind.....ie no trunk bag and rack and the bike felt really light. The thing is most riders say i'll get sick of it and end up going back to panniers. Any thoughts on this??? before i go out and buy a proper bag with waist strap and all.

around the ten mile mark is when I get sick of a messenger bag and want panniers. If I was carrying my laptop in every day that threshold would be reduced.
I'm with your 'most riders'. Stick with the panniers, if you've got em and it's all set up already, why not? -

Panniers.

panniers, mix it up by strapping your bag to the pannier, you can wear it when you want to fly.
I've not looked at Carradice panniers Skully. Almost settled on Ortlieb Back Roller pluses. Hmm.
